This Saturday, a postcard rack appeared at Brønnøysund Airport as one of the exhibits in the “Sør i Nord: Exhibition by Lars Laumann with Friends.”

“Postkort. Postcards. Pocztówki” (2025), Patryk Kurowski
[postcard rack, postcards 12 × 16 cm]

Brønnøysund is a small town on the southern edge of Northern Norway, visually dominated by Torghattenund is a small town on the southern edge of Northern Norway, visually dominated by Torghatten—a mountain with a hole through it—located about 10 km from the town centre. In the “Postkort” project, Kurowski invites travellers departing from the local airport to vote for the image that best represents Brønnøysund. They can choose between iconic landmarks and seemingly meaningless pictures.

The first copy of each postcard costs 100 kr, and each subsequent copy costs 1 kr less. This pricing model not only tracks the number of copies sold, but also reflects how increasing circulation can cause the depicted place to lose its original aura.

Over time, a widely used image becomes a metaphor for the place it depicts. But is a mountain with a large hole really the only possible metaphor for Brønnøysund?

A smaller version of the postcard rack was presented as part of the exhibition at Gallery Hullet.

Most of the money raised from selling the postcards will be dedicated to supporting the activities of the cultural association Milepæl.

The postcards are sold by SMÅ SVANG, the little sibling of the SVANG. With this, MILEPÆL and SVANG are launching their collaboration to promote Brønnøysund and its region.

And special thanks to Gauper for sponsoring the printing.

Magdalena Bürgin-Borch, a textile artist and one of the featured participants in Sør i Nord: Exhibition by Lars Laumann with Friends

Magdalena is a textile artist, originally from Basel in Switzerland, born in 1947. She has lived and worked in Northern Norway for over fifty years—and now practices her craft in Brønnøysund. She holds a solid education from the School of Arts and Crafts in Basel, supplemented by further studies in Norway. Her long career as an artist is characterized by deep dedication, profound mastery of her craft, and an ability to blend the intimate with the timeless.

Over the years, Magdalena has undertaken numerous site-specific commissions and taken part in several exhibitions, including the Festspillene i Nord-Norge (Northern Norway Festival). Many know her best for her work on liturgical garments and church art—a field in which she has truly left her mark and created something unique.

In her art, one finds a distinct, instantly recognizable visual language. She employs symbols such as staircases, trees, and arches—forms that invite viewers into a quiet, meditative visual universe. Her works offer space for reflection and contemplation, opening themselves to personal interpretation and experience. Drawing inspiration both from art history and her own life experiences, Magdalena has forged her own mythology—a visual world that feels at once familiar and new.

Magdalena’s works will be on view at Gallery Hullet during the 'Sør i Nord' exhibition. That opens July 12th.
