It’s hard to believe that the Games are already behind us. For one incredible week, eight New Wings athletes came together to be part of something truly special. A week filled with sport, friendship, laughter, new experiences and memories that will stay with us for years to come.

We watched personal records being broken, medals being won and confidence growing with every challenge. Indy brought home three gold medals and one silver, Maévi won bronze, Ief earned bronze and silver, and Tasnim proudly took home gold. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥈🥈🥉🥉

Not every athlete got the chance to compete. Due to the extreme heat, the final competitions were cancelled before some of our children could take part. A difficult moment after months of training and looking forward to the Games. Yet even then, they reminded us what New Wings is all about: supporting one another, staying positive and making the most of every moment together.

When we look back, we don’t just see medals. We see friendships, proud families in the stands, children gaining confidence, and moments of pure joy.

That is why New Wings exists. To give transplanted children opportunities, experiences and memories that help them spread their wings. 🪽💙

🏅💙 Day 5 at the European Transplant Games

The day started early for Team New Wings. Sieb headed to the athletics track, where he spent the morning training and working on his javelin technique. 💪🏽🎯

Meanwhile, Ief and his beach volleyball team began their tournament. After two strong victories, the team secured a place in the final against Italy. Despite a great effort, Italy proved too strong this time, resulting in a fantastic silver medal for Team NL/Transplant. An achievement to be incredibly proud of! 🏐🥈

At the same time, Stéphanie and Amaysa attended a congress at Papendal, where they shared their personal stories about transplantation and sport. Together, they showed how sport can help transplant recipients build confidence, stay healthy and stay connected. 💙

As temperatures climbed up, the heat became an increasingly important factor throughout the day. Later, we received the news that all remaining sports competitions on Friday and Saturday would be cancelled due to the extreme weather conditions.

The children had been looking forward to their upcoming events after months of training, so the news was difficult to hear. But even in that moment, the New Wings family did what we do best: support one another, spend time together and make the most of every moment. 💙🪽

🏅💙 Day 4 at the European Transplant Games!

The day started with the 5K race for Tasnim and Ief. Despite the rising temperatures, both delivered fantastic performances. Tasnim won gold in her age category, while Ief claimed bronze and achieved a new personal record, finishing faster than he did at last year’s Games. 🥇🥉🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Later in the morning, all New Wings athletes gathered on the athletics track for a special project. The children took part in recordings for promotional material for the World Transplant Games 2027 in Leuven. During the filming, they also joined an athletics training session led by New Wings athlete Sieb. 🤩

We ended the day at the Cultural Evening, where athletes and families from different countries came together to exchange pins, make new friends and celebrate the unique spirit of the Games. ✨🌍

It was also there that Sieb shared a special reunion, meeting a friend from the English team whom he had first met at the Games seven years ago. A beautiful reminder of the lasting friendships that grow within the transplant community. 💙

Another day full of medals, personal achievements, friendship and special moments!

🏅💙 Day 3 at the European Transplant Games!

The day started with a special moment for Maévi and her mother, Shanon, who were interviewed by Radio Rijnmond and had the opportunity to share their story and experiences at the European Transplant Games. 🎙️✨

After that, it was time to head to the pool. Indy and Maévi both delivered fantastic performances and added more medals to Team NL/Transplant’s collection:

🥇 Indy – 25m Freestyle
🥈 Indy – 25m Breaststroke
🥉 Maévi – 25m Breaststroke

Both girls also achieved personal records, making these results even more special. Seeing their hard work, dedication and perseverance rewarded in this way was a proud moment for everyone. 💙🏊‍♀️

And of course, the New Wings family was there every step of the way. From the stands, family members, teammates and supporters cheered loudly for every race, every finish and every achievement. 📣💙

Later in the day, we headed over to support the Walking Football team. Among the players was Raymond, Ief’s father, who donated a kidney to him. Watching donors and transplant recipients enjoy sport together made the moment extra special. The team played a fantastic tournament and finished in an impressive 4th place. ⚽💙🪽

The day ended at the Holland House, where Indy and Maévi celebrated their swimming medals together with the rest of Team NL/Transplant. A wonderful way to end another memorable day filled with sport, friendship and special moments. 🏅🧡

Day 2 at the European Transplant Games and the first day of competition! 🥇🥇💙

It was Indy’s big day as she competed in the first races at the Games. With determination, focus and confidence, she swam her way to two gold medals in the 25m and 50m backstroke. What an incredible achievement! 🏊‍♀️✨

Indy was also interviewed by NOS Jeugdjournaal, sharing her story and experience at the Games. 🎥💙

The rest of the day was spent cheering on the other Team NL/Transplant athletes and celebrating everyone’s achievements together at the Holland House. 🧡🏅

🏅💙 What a special first day at the European Transplant Games 2026!

The day started with a swim training session for Maévi and Indy, giving them the opportunity to get familiar with the pool where they will be competing over the coming days.

At Sportcentrum Valkenhuizen, one of the competition venues, we came across something very special: posters featuring Stéphanie and Amaysa. Their inspiring stories can be found on the European Transplant Games website. 💙

Later in the day, it was time for the official Opening Ceremony at Musis Arnhem. We walked as Team NL/Transplant in a parade through Arnhem towards the venue. It was a beautiful moment filled with pride, unity and excitement as we officially kicked off this special week.

An extra special moment was reserved for Stéphanie, who had the honour of being one of the flag bearers for the Netherlands during the ceremony. 🇳🇱✨

A wonderful start to an unforgettable week. We can’t wait to see what the next few days will bring!

Tomorrow marks the beginning of a special adventure for our eight transplanted New Wings athletes at the European Transplant Games 2026 in Arnhem. Together with the athletes of TransFit, they will represent Team NL Transplant💙🧡🇳🇱

Hun verhalen geven een inkijkje in het leven na een transplantatie: de uitdagingen die daarbij komen kijken, maar ook de kracht van sport, beweging en doorzettingsvermogen. 💙
