KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation KNCV TB Plus is dedicated to fighting TB worldwide and to strengthening health systems against TB. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate the disease from the world.

KNCV has been active in the fight against tuberculosis 117 years. We firmly believe that the only way to achieve this goal is to embed TB control into national health programs and involving all relevant parties. That is why we invest in engaging the private sector and civil society organizations and empower patients to help themselves and others. That is also why ensuring country ownership and transferring knowledge on every mission are key components of our approach. As an international renowned team of TB experts, KNCV also plays a pivotal and influential role in international TB policy development. We identify barriers and opportunities for TB control, addressing these with country-specific operational research projects and related guideline development. As such, we fight TB through the whole cycle of program design, implementation, evaluation and policy development.

How can TB elimination be achieved in high TB-burden settings?🤔

Our colleague and (TB) expert Degu Jerene will be joining the with answers to this question, and more questions to be asked:
✍How can these approaches be sustainable?
✍How can communities play a role in these strategies?
✍How can we adapt these initiatives across different high TB-burden settings?

SIILTIBCY test implementation and prospects for its continued use in the Republic of Tajikistan📌

On October 9, 2026, a consultative meeting was held in Dushanbe city, attended by representatives from the Dushanbe City’s TB Center, KNCV in Tajikistan, and healthcare professionals involved in the research project on introduction and use of test.

Between June 5 and September 30, 2026, 254 contact individuals underwent testing using the SIILTIBCY method*:
🔹46 people tested positive
🔹8 confirmed cases of TB
🔹26 contact individuals started preventive treatment
*All those tested also underwent an X-ray examination.

💪The significance of this research project is the opportunity to assess the practical SILTIBCY implementation taking into account the conditions of health care in Tajikistan. 🔗Read more about it here:

Did you know that as part of our knowledge exchange approaches we record all of our webinar sessions and make them publicly available for further consultation?🤔💻

Earlier this week we held a webinar to learn from practical experiences across the Philippines and Ukraine and explore how policy support, capacity strengthening, community engagement, multisectoral collaboration and market-shaping approaches can contribute to better TB prevention, diagnosis and care.

‼️How important it is to have stakeholders sit together, present and reflect on how approaches are taken up across sectors: departments of health, community-led organizations, CSOs and market access.

This webinar was conducted under the Unitaid-funded projet ASCENT DR-TB. We thank speakers and moderators from the Department of Health of the Philippines, KNCV Ethiopia, KNCV Philippines, PATH, TBpeopleUkraine and Clinton Health Access Initiative. 🤝

Looking back at the ASCENT DR-TB dissemination workshop in Mozambique💫

The session brought together local leaders and stakeholders to discuss the critical role of active drug safety monitoring and management ( ) in ensuring safe, effective, and people-centered care for individuals on treatment for (DR-TB).

‼️Patient safety is essential for the successful introduction of new medicines and shorter DR-TB treatment regimens. Strengthening safety monitoring through collaboration between the pharmacovigilance unit, healthcare providers, affected communities, and partners has created the conditions for scale-up and fostered a more inclusive, people-centered approach to care.🤝

By working together, is enhancing aDSM, improving treatment outcomes, and ensuring that innovation in TB care is matched by strong systems to protect and support patients every step of their treatment journey.💪

Join us this November at the where our colleague Dr. Cecile Magis-Escurra will be chairing the working group of in prisons.

👉Prisons are not islands and are certainly not isolated from society. The high rates of TB among people in settings drive up TB incidence in the general population, making it clear that “no one is safe until everyone is safe.” The health of people deprived of liberty is a public health concern that affects us all.

TB remains a global health threat, and an urgent focus on prison settings is necessary. See you in Rio!

Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases continue to pose significant health, social, and economic challenges across Sub-Saharan Africa. Outbreaks such as ebola, Mpox, COVID-19, and other epidemic-prone diseases highlight the need for strong health systems that can anticipate risks and guide timely responses.💻

👉The TIMERA (Training Initiative for Modelling Epidemic Response in Africa) project is strengthening Africa’s capacity to use infectious disease modelling to better prepare for, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks. aims to support faster, more effective, and locally driven public health decision-making across sub-Saharan Africa by building a new generation of African modelling experts.

💪The project is organising short-term, combined training programmes for early- to mid-career researchers and public health professionals with a strong commitment to apply modelling approaches in infectious disease control. In total, it will train 50 African fellows, adding significantly to the regional epidemiological workforce.

📢The Call for applications for Short-Term Training Fellowship is open until October 15, 2026. Apply now: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfISlfdvJv-q-mpSal6lmXsSdjZ6bX_bFOQBneZ5AxVbMIubw/viewform‼️

Ensuring patient safety through the Unitaid-funded ASCENT DR-TB project💊

Earlier this month, our colleague Mansa Mbenga had the opportunity to engage with healthcare professionals in and discuss key challenges in (AE) detection, management, recording, and reporting. Interactive case reviews and experience sharing helped them explore practical approaches to identifying, managing, and documenting AEs to enhance patient safety and quality of care.

Yes, effective implementation of shorter all-oral treatment regimens leads to better treatment outcomes. But also, implementing strong active drug monitoring and management (aDSM) practices has a key role in ensuring patient safety throughout the treatment journey.🛣️
