If you're pursuing Canadian Citizenship by Descent, here are 6 places to start your genealogy document search!

Important Note: The IRRC has recently begun challenging applications without certified records. Now, certified copies are the gold standard.

Use sources like Ancestry.com to find what records are available. Then, request certified copies from the original source authority.

If those aren’t available, still submit proof that you tried to get certified copies. We have a full guide on our website that walks you through the process step by step!

The Rules are Changing for EU Asylum Seekers Today → Here's What You Need to Know About the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum

What’s Changing?
-There is a new shared “safe country” list in effect across the EU as of today, June 12. EU member states can more easily reject asylum claims from citizens of “safe” countries
-EU member states can more easily refuse to process applicants who passed through a safe country
-Opens a path to process asylum seekers in third countries

How Does This Impact Asylum Seekers from the U.S.?
The U.S. is not on the official safe country list. But it is commonly assumed to be a safe country of origin and EU member states can still list the U.S. as a safe country on their national lists.

We expect asylum seekers from the United States to continue to face assumptions that they do not need asylum and higher standards for proof of persecution or risk of serious harm when seeking asylum in the EU.

Our advice: Always get legal counsel before attempting to seek asylum. We expect the EU Pact to make it harder for refugees from across the world to access asylum in the EU.
