The title of this year’s edition of Modebelofte - ‘Seductive Precursors’ – underscores the importance of the pioneering creati
vity displayed by these talented designers. By experimenting, intuitively and conceptually, with techniques, materials, shapes and references they seduce us to immerse in their visions of possible fashions for a moment. Seductive Precursors play an important role in fashion’s characteristic dynamic of perpetual renewal by convincingly connecting the familiar with the unfamiliar. The selected designers challenge us to consider our contemporary sense of self and our ideas about the wearability of objects in a progressive, fictitious or futuristic perspective. The initiator of ‘Modebelofte’ – meaning ‘Fashion promise’ - is the Eindhoven based concept store YOU ARE HERE. With Modebelofte they bring the fashion design discipline in the context of Dutch Design Week. By creating a platform for the most adventurous and visionary innovators from the latest generation of fashion talents during such an internationally well-attended design manifestation Modebelofte seeks the dialogue with likewise innovative companies, universities, media and the public. For Modebelofte 2014 YOU ARE HERE chose to team up with visual designer Niek Pulles a.k.a. Heyniek [www.heyniek.com] and experience designer Harm Rensink [www.harmrensink.nl]. In close collaboration with the YOU ARE HERE team they are the curators and designers of this edition of Modebelofte. Modebelofte 2014 finds accommodation in the former Bongo Beach club at Stratumseind 34-36 in Eindhoven, now part of a large cultural center in development (together with restaurants and event spaces De Oude Rechtbank and Tuchthuis). Partners
