Three mindset shifts that helped me stop living in fear of my next asthma attack.

When you have a chronic condition, fear becomes a roommate you never invited. It moves in quietly and starts rearranging
everything. But you can learn to take back space in your own life.

1: Shift One: From “What if it happens?” to “What will I do when it happens?”
Fear thrives on vagueness. When I stopped catastrophizing and started planning, I discovered that preparation creates freedom.
Knowing your triggers, carrying your medication, and having a clear action plan transforms panic into confidence.

2: Shift Two: From “I can’t because of my asthma” to “I can, and here is how I will adapt.”
Your condition requires adjustments, not a full stop. I started asking different questions. Instead of “Can I do this?” I began asking
“How can I do this safely?” The answers surprised me.

3; Shift Three: From hiding your condition to owning your story.
I used to tuck my inhaler away like evidence of weakness. Now I understand that managing a chronic condition while pursuing
your dreams takes more strength than most people will ever need. That is not something to hide. That is something to honor.
Living with asthma does not mean living small.

Which of these shifts resonates most with where you are right now? I would love to hear from you in the comments

🌍 Honoring World Bronchiectasis Day: Airway Clearance Techniques 🌬️

Today, we highlight the importance of airway clearance techniques for those living with bronchiectasis. This chronic lung condition can lead to mucus buildup, making breathing difficult and increasing infection risk. Regularly practicing these techniques can significantly improve lung function and overall well-being.

Effective Airway Clearance Techniques:

1. Chest Physiotherapy (CPT): Helps loosen mucus through tapping and postural drainage.

2. Active Cycle of Breathing Techniques (ACBT): A series of controlled breathing exercises to clear mucus.

3. PEP Therapy: A device that creates resistance during exhalation to keep airways open.

4. OPEP: Incorporates vibrations to help loosen mucus.

5. Inhalation Therapy: Nebulizers or inhalers deliver medication directly to the lungs.

6. Exercise: Regular activity enhances lung capacity and helps clear mucus.

💪 Incorporating these techniques into your daily routine can lead to better lung health and improve your quality of life.

“Grad school applications are open. That trip is still
bookable. Your adventure is waiting. What is one small thing
you can do this week to move toward it?”

Your Diagnosis Is Not Your Destiny

I almost dropped out of college, convinced that my asthma would hold me back. Climbing stairs felt daunting, and I began to skip lectures and avoid dreams.

But I learned that my diagnosis doesn’t define me. 🌟 I started managing my condition instead of letting it control me.

Today, I’ve traveled to places I once thought were out of reach and seized opportunities that once scared me. Resilience is a skill I built, and I’m proud of the life I’ve created. I wrote Breath Unbound for the young woman in Liberia, Lagos, or London who is quietly shrinking herself because she believes her condition has already written her story. It hasn’t. You still hold the pen.

Let’s inspire each other! What challenges have you overcome? Share your stories below!

We leave our print in the books we write and the words we share, because words are the only vessels that travel without needing a passport. When we publish our stories, our wisdom, and our truths, they cross oceans, mountains, and borders to reach hearts we will never touch. In these pages, nationality disappears, and only our shared humanity remains, proving that dignity, justice, and love are universal languages.
This print lives on in the archives of history and in the minds of future generations. It becomes a timeless testimony that we existed, we cared, and we stood together. Wherever there is paper, stone, or memory, our legacy remains-eternal, unbound, and free.
