💛 This is our team at NWC 💛

We’ve been busy at NWC - while half of our team was running our International Women’s Day film screening event in Amsterdam, the other half of our team is in New York at the UN headquarters 📚🌍 (more on both later! 🔜)

We wanted to take this occasion to (re)introduce ourselves. Our small team works hard all year around to make sure that the voices of those intersectionally marginalised are represented. Swipe to meet us, and see what we do on a day-to-day basis!

Of course, there are many people helping support NWC’s work who are not on this pictures. Volunteers, interns and our community - we are eternally grateful to all of you 💙

Throughout February, we’re focusing on climate displacement. 🟢

Across regions, the climate crisis is increasingly driving migration and forcing communities into precarious legal and social realities.

This month, we highlight the urgent need for stronger international recognition, protection, and solidarity for people displaced by climate impacts who remain unprotected by current legal frameworks.

Because climate justice means safeguarding the rights and dignity of those most vulnerable. 💚

International Women’s Day is about more than just celebrating women.

In 2026, we are far from gender equality - women’s rights have faced significant pushback in the past years. With far-right governments on the rise in many parts of the world, both women and gender-diverse individuals have been bearing the brunt of decisions and policies that disregard their lived experiences and needs. This is especially true when it comes to women with a refugee or migration background.

We won’t let that happen - we refuse to be disregarded. We resist the dominant narrative that criminalizes migration, that tries to erase trans identities, that tries to define what we can and can’t do.

🌷💥 This Women’s Day, meet six women who have dedicated their careers to advocacy and defying the status quo 🌷💥

They are filmmakers, journalists, human rights defenders, photographers, researchers and activists - but most importantly, they are authors of their own narratives.

Join us at on the 7th of March for a panel discussion following the film screenings (emoji) with:

This International Women’s Day, we step beyond the symbolic celebration and acknowledgement of women 💥

With moving, thought-provoking short films, we explore how migrant women are authors of their own narrative, shaping how migration, identity, and belonging are understood in society. Through the panel discussion that follows, we highlight the lived experiences, creativity, and visibility of migrant women in the Netherlands and beyond.

You’ll gain insights into the stories behind the screen and engage with the women whose perspectives challenge dominant narratives.

This International Women’s Day, come and see what’s behind the lens 🎥 and stand in solidarity with refugee and migrant women 🫂

Climate change is not gender neutral.
✨ Throughout January, we’re centring women as climate pioneers.
Across different regions and contexts, the impacts of climate change are deeply gendered, shaped by intersecting systems of patriarchy, colonialism, and economic inequality.
With this month’s content, we aim to highlight both the disproportionate impacts of the climate crisis on women and girls, and the central role women play in resisting, organising, and advancing climate justice.
Because there is no climate justice without gender justice.

Throughout December, we’re diving into the idea of a Just Transition.

Across Europe and globally, there are different visions of what a Just Transition should look like from EU funding mechanisms to grassroots and Indigenous approaches centred on people and planet.

With this month’s content, we aim to make the concept clearer and highlight its justice dimensions: who is centred, who benefits, and what it really means to “leave no one behind.”

Because there is no climate justice without social justice, labour justice and mobility justice.

💚 To kick off this month, check out today’s infographic for key information in an accessible way 👉

17/12/2025

In 2025, humanitarian funding cuts reached unprecedented levels, with major donor governments sharply reducing foreign aid. Refugee women-led organizations, long under-resourced yet central to providing essential services and challenging systemic oppression, have been particularly affected.

Since March 2025, New Women Connectors, also a co-lead for the Multistakeholder Pledge in Meaningful Refugee Participation by the Global Compact of Refugees, has been researching how these organizations continue to navigate shrinking funding, political instability, and growing demands while sustaining critical support for stateless and displaced women.

Our report, ‘NO NEW CRISIS -Refugee Women-Led Organisations Remain Under-Resourced’ gathered data from over 100 respondents, representing refugee WLOs, refugee, stateless, displaced, and migrant women across 28 countries. Our work is guided by feminist principles: the design, analysis, and interpretation of findings are led by those directly impacted by funding cuts.

We have just launched the report on Monday at the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review - High Level Officials Meeting in Geneva, organized by UNHCR, .

Some of our key findings include:
📌Refugee WLOs are forced into closure or reduction of services
📌Refugee women face heightened risks to their safety and well-being
📌Despite all of these challenges, refugee women continue to lead with resilience

Our recommendations are the following:
🚨WLOs need funding that is core, flexible and multi-year
🚨The meaningful participation of refugee women must be centred in decision-making processes
🚨Solutions must address legal and structural obstacles

The message is clear: we urge donors, partners, and decision-makers to recognise, fund, and trust refugee women-led organisations - not as temporary relief providers, but as experts, leaders, and change-makers.

This report is supported by UNHCR. Our partner is the Whole World Women Association

💡What does an energy transition mean?

🚨 Who does it leave behind in this process?

⭕ Which voices are platformed and which are not?

Come and join us for our next CoFe Tables session where we will unpack these and many more questions 💥

Taking a decolonial and feminist lens, we aim to discuss how an energy transition can spell consequences for the most vulnerable among us, and for a transition to be truly just, we need to hear the voices and experiences of those from climate-affected regions.

For this session, we have the luck of collaborating with - Stacey Ogembo will help us unpack these concepts.

Together, we hope to explore the aspects of a just transition that resonate most with participants and their work—whether that involves the shift to green energy, reducing climate-driven displacement, addressing energy poverty, or other dimensions of climate justice.
