𝐃𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬

As of 1 July 2026, Dr Rens Tacoma will succeed Prof. Susanna de Beer as Director of Ancient Studies at the KNIR. Before coming to Rome Tacoma has been working as a Roman historian at the Department of History at Leiden University. His research is situated at the interface of the analysis of documentary texts and Roman social history; currently he is leading an NWO project on Roman fake news. Much of his work has centered on Italy and Rome and he has been a regular visitor of the KNIR. In his capacity as Director of Ancient Studies Tacoma hopes to strengthen the collaboration with other academic institutes, both in Rome and elsewhere, in particular on the themes of migration and mobility and political culture.

⏰ Apply now to our Minor Program 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐞: 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐭 & 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲!

Florence and Rome are of fundamental importance to those working in the humanities, since most of its disciplines originate in late medieval or early modern Italy, and even postmodernism has some of its most significant roots in Italy’s intellectual debates. Therefore, Florence and Rome are ideal sites to explore the historiography of art history, history, and adjacent fields from both a historical and a contemporary perspective. This Minor, hosted and financed by NIKI in Florence and KNIR in Rome, offers the opportunity to do so to a group of motivated students from Dutch universities, allowing them to work with a large variety of methodologies in order to understand present-day Italy through its historical developments, as well as stimulating them to critically assess their disciplinary orientation in a cross-disciplinary context.

Dates: 21 August - 18 December 2026
Deadline for applications: 1 May 2026

Johan Meerman a Roma e Napoli nell’anno giubilare 1775: uno sguardo inedito olandese

Johan Meerman a Roma e Napoli nell’anno giubilare 1775: uno sguardo inedito olandese
