Sabon Gari Education Development Association (SEDA) was formally known as Muchia Education Development Association, established on the 7th January 2007. The association is a non-political one, it is an educationally based NGO that is dedicated to the advancement of educational standard and awareness of students in Sabon Gari Local Government of Kaduna State.
The association draws its members from every nooks and crannies of Sabon Gari Local Government irrespective of what ever background. ORGANS OF SEDA
THE CONGRESS: This is the supreme organ of the association which comprises of all registers members. The congress meets after every six months. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES : This is a high powered body charged with the responsibility of making policies as well as overseeing the management of the Association’s funds, programmes, and projects. The BOT meets once after every three months. THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL: This is the central working body of the association, it implements all programmes approved by the Congress and BOT. AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF SEDA
The aims and objectives of SEDA include:
To stimulate psychological endurance among the youths to face educational challenges of the 21st century in order to make our community great. To provide immediate educational needs to orphan children in schools. To inculcate in our youths the spirit of selflessness, self-reliance and self-sufficiency. To provide remediation assistance to students to enable them register for WAEC, NECO, JAMB etc. To liase with our elders on complex issue with the aim of strengthening the bond of followership and leadership. To motivate by providing proper guidance and counseling as well as financial support to needy and promising students of the area that are lacking government scholarship or means to sponsor themselves. To encourage positive virtues of obedience, respect, honesty, kindness and fear of Allah among youths and people in general. To provide educational assistance to children and youths who drop out of school due to poverty etc. SEDA DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS:
SEDA REFRESHER PROGRAMME (SRP):
This programme is taking place at Muchia L.E.A primary school S/Gari, every Saturday & Sunday 9am to 2pm. Teachers are voluntarily committed in coaching primary and Secondary School students so as to pass their SSCE with flying colours that would enable them secure admission into Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. Currently SRP has more than 2018 students. SEDA INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SIIT):
Situated at Sabongari Comprehensive health center, this program is aimed at equipping students with all necessary IT knowledge.
¨ SEDA VOCATIONAL & ENTREPRENEURSHIP SCHEME (SVES):
This scheme is aimed at teaching youth skills like: welding, carpentry, panel beating, tailoring, soap making, dish installation, weaving, phone repairing etc. SEDA CAMPAIGN AGAINST DRUG ABUSE (SCADA):
It is generally believed that, drug abuse is the genesis of some social vices in the society. In line with this, SEDA initiated this programme to reduce the level of drug abuse among youth. Secondary and Primary school were visited for sensitization tour. SEDA SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (SSS):
This programme is aimed at providing bursaries and scholarship to students of less privileged in Primary, Secondary Schools or Tertiary institutions. SEDA GUIDANCE & COUNSELING SCHEME (SGCS):
This programme is aimed at making effective career orientation to students , school drop outs and youths that do not go to school at all. Achievements Recorded
SEDA have been running free classes for Students of all categories in Muchia Primary School under its refresher Programme (SEDA REFRESHER PROGRAMME). Students from almost all part of S/Gari attends the programme. SEDA have been equipping students across S/Gari with the necessary computer training/skills to face the challenges of the IT world. SEDA have been providing School Uniforms and writing materials to pupils in Primary Schools. SEDA have been registering orphans’ children into different schools.
