Today, we mark , a day to honour the approximately 476 million Indigenous voices across the globe and reaffirm our commitment to protecting their rights, traditions and ways of life in an ever-evolving world.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly present in every aspect of our lives, UNESCO is working with Indigenous communities to ensure that AI serves their rights, not undermines them.

From supporting Hadzabe trackers in Tanzania to digitize biodiversity knowledge, to empowering pastoral communities in Chad with AI-enhanced weather forecasting, and bringing together language specialists and youth in Bangladesh to tackle digital exclusion, UNESCO supports Indigenous Peoples, not only as partners, but as actors of change.

Our programmes, from World Heritage sites and Biosphere Reserves to the International Decade of Indigenous Languages and the LINKS programme, are helping protect Indigenous heritage, bridge traditional knowledge and science, and support community-led innovation.
