At CEMILCCA- Centre for Media and Information Literacy and Climate Change Action , our work is firmly aligned with national environmental priorities, with a strong emphasis on climate change mitigation as a critical pillar of our mission.

In line with this commitment, our Programs Manager, Habiba Mohammed Sani PhD, during the official unveiling of economic trees, presented a Malmo tree to the Principal of Government Secondary School Jama’a in Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria. This symbolic gesture reflects our dedication to promoting environmental sustainability, strengthening community engagement, and fostering long-term ecological resilience through education and action.

Centre for Media and Information Literacy and Climate Change Action (CEMILCCA) is driving Climate Education and Community Development.

Earlier in February, CEMILCCA made a meaningful impact by reaching schools and communities across Kaduna State, reaffirming its commitment to empowering underserved populations through education, environmental awareness, and active civic engagement.

As part of this initiative, CEMILCCA engaged with secondary school students in Zaria, delivering impactful training sessions on climate education and environmental sustainability. The programme was designed to equip young people with the knowledge and practical understanding needed to become responsible environmental champions. In addition, schools were supported with economic trees, promoting sustainability thereby encouraging long-term environmental and economic benefits within their communities.

CEMILCCA continues to work tirelessly to ensure that underserved communities have access to quality education, a healthy environment, and opportunities to actively participate as informed and responsible citizens.

This initiative aligns strongly with global climate action and sustainable development efforts championed by key international bodies such as United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Through these efforts, CEMILCCA contributes to enhancing climate resilience, environmental sustainability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.

Importantly, the programme also aligns with Nigeria’s national environmental and climate priorities, including commitments to climate adaptation, afforestation, environmental education, and youth engagement. By integrating climate education with practical actions such as tree planting, CEMILCCA supports Nigeria’s efforts toward building climate resilience, promoting sustainable land use, and fostering responsible communities.

The programme recorded an overwhelming success, as beneficiaries expressed great excitement, satisfaction, and appreciation for the initiative. Participants highlighted the relevance of the knowledge gained and they called for sustained engagement and regular interventions that introduce innovative, practical solutions to environmental and societal challenges.

CEMILCCA remains steadfast in its mission to empower communities through climate education, media literacy, and sustainable development initiatives that inspire action, build resilience, and secure a better future for all.

Impact in Action! 🌍📚

The Centre for Media and Information Literacy and Climate Change Action (CEMILCCA), earlier this week touched lives through a transformative Media and Information Literacy outreach across schools and communities in Kaduna State.

In Zaria, the engagement focused on empowering household women with practical skills to confidently navigate today’s complex information space. Participants were trained on how to critically analyse media content, identify misinformation and disinformation, and promote responsible and ethical media use within their homes and communities.

This initiative represents the first community-based Media and Information Literacy programme of its kind in the region, aligning strongly with the global vision of UNESCO in promoting informed, responsible, and inclusive societies.

remains committed to equipping vulnerable populations with critical skills to combat misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech across Nigeria. Through innovative, community-driven solutions, we continue to promote informed decision-making, peaceful coexistence, and active civic participation.

The excitement, appreciation, and positive feedback from beneficiaries remind us why this mission matters. Communities are not only learning — they are demanding sustained engagement and innovative solutions for a better and informed future.

Together, we are building resilient communities through knowledge, media literacy, and climate action.

On this International Day of Education, we stand united in recognizing the transformative power that education holds, especially for young people, and particularly for girls. At CEMILCCA, we believe that education is more than just a fundamental human right; it is the key to unlocking a world of endless possibilities, empowering individuals, families, and entire communities to break free from the shackles of poverty and inequality.

In many parts of the world, girls are still denied the right to an education, their dreams stifled by societal barriers. Yet, studies show that when girls are educated, the benefits ripple through society, which assists in improving health, fostering economic growth, and creating a future of gender equality. The impact of education on young girls cannot be overstated. It is a force that lifts them, it helps them find their voice, and it nurtures their potential to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers in their communities.

As we mark this important day, we call on everyone, ranging from governments, educators, parents, and communities, to commit to ensuring that every child, everywhere, has access to quality education. The future depends on it. When we educate one child, we not only change their life, we change the world for the better.

We stand with UNESCO and the UN in advocating for education that is inclusive, equitable, and of the highest quality for all. Let us work together to ensure that no child, regardless of their gender or background, is left behind.

Media literacy is not just about knowing how to use digital tools; it is about developing the capacity to question narratives, verify sources, understand bias, and resist manipulation. A society that lacks these skills becomes vulnerable to emotional propaganda and ideological control.

China continues to demonstrate how strategic foresight, innovation, and effective implementation can redefine what is possible in environmental management. Among its most transformative initiatives is the large-scale project aimed at converting desertification which is a challenge that has threatened ecosystems, livelihoods, and climate stability for decades.

Through integrated land rehabilitation, extensive tree-planting programs, advanced irrigation systems, and sustained policy commitment, China has succeeded in converting previously barren desert zones into flourishing green environments. These restored landscapes now play a vital role in enhancing biodiversity, strengthening ecological resilience, and reducing the impacts of global warming.

China’s desertification control project stands as a global model that's showing how nations can address environmental threats with science-driven planning, long-term investment, and unwavering ex*****on.
