International Day of Zero Waste 2026 ♻️
Today, we join the global community in marking the International Day of Zero Waste, a powerful reminder that our everyday choices shape the health of our planet and our communities.

At The Life We Deserve Foundation, we believe that waste is not just a problem, it is an opportunity.

Through our initiatives, we are actively transforming waste into value by:
🔄 Promoting innovative solutions that convert waste into sustainable energy sources
🌱 Reducing environmental pollution in vulnerable communities
👩🏽‍🤝‍👩🏾 Protecting the health and wellbeing of women and children who are disproportionately affected by poor waste management
🏘️ Empowering local communities to take ownership of waste solutions and build climate resilience

In many communities, unmanaged waste leads to polluted water, toxic air, and increased health risks. By rethinking waste, we are not only protecting the environment but also creating safer, healthier, and more sustainable futures.

From waste collection and recycling to community-driven climate solutions, our work continues to demonstrate that a zero-waste future is possible when communities are empowered and solutions are inclusive.

Let’s rethink waste. Let’s restore dignity. Let’s build a cleaner, healthier world together.

Project Spotlight: Local Community-based Climate Actions and Awareness Project (LoCCAAP)

After the 2025 flooding in Tudun Jukun Zaria, Kaduna State, one thing became clear from our conversations with residents: the challenges they face are not just environmental, they are a result of collective negligence, both at the community level and within climate governance systems.

People spoke about poor drainage maintenance, weak waste management practices, and limited inclusion of community voices in policy planning, budgeting processes, and local environmental decision-making.

This insight shaped our work through the Local Community-based Climate Actions and Awareness Project (LoCCAP). We mobilized youth, women, and community leaders for clean-up campaigns, tree planting, climate and disaster awareness sessions. But beyond the activities, we listened, and what we heard was a strong demand for accountability, policy responsiveness, and inclusive governance frameworks.

LoCCAP showed us that communities are willing to act, but lasting change requires both citizen responsibility and responsive governance.

This is why our work is evolving with a stronger focus on climate governance and environmental accountability, ensuring that both communities and institutions play their part.

We are proud to share that The Life We Deserve Foundation was represented by our CFO Amina Ibrahim Babbaji at the Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) 2026 High-Level Policy Engagement, held at the Presidential Banquet Hall, State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

The summit, organized by Sterling One Foundation with the Office of the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria (Agribusiness & Productivity Enhancement), convened senior government leaders, UN agencies, private sector executives, civil society organizations, and development partners under the theme: “Driving Inclusive Growth through Policy Innovation.”

Key Highlights from the Engagement:
The conversations emphasised the need for a whole-of-society approach to national development one that integrates action across:

• Education reform
• Public health systems strengthening
• Gender equality
• Climate resilience
• Digital transformation
• Inclusive finance and enterprise development

Discussions focused on translating global commitments and ASIS communiqués into concrete national policy instruments. Major highlights included:
1. The launch of the Nigeria Foundational Learning Fund
2. Introduction of the Women & Youth Financial and Enterprise Inclusion (WYFEI) Framework
3. Renewed commitments to mobilising impact investments aligned with the SDGs and Agenda 2063

Why This Matters to TLWDF
As an organisation working at the intersection of climate action, public health, youth empowerment, and education, TLWDF strongly believes that sustainable and inclusive growth must be co-created with young people.

Youth are not passive recipients of policy outcomes we are active stakeholders, innovators, and leaders in shaping Nigeria’s development pathway.

Our participation reinforced our commitment to:
✔ Youth-centred policy reform
✔ Evidence-driven advocacy
✔ Inclusive development that leaves no one behind
✔ Strengthening youth engagement in national and global policy spaces

We are grateful to the ASIS conveners for amplifying youth voices in critical decision-making spaces.

The future of Nigeria’s development must not just be designed for young people, it must be built with us.
