Strategic Learning Visit to Kiri Dam: Exploring Local Solutions for Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods
Yesterday, The Nigeria Local Coalition Accelerator (NLCA) recently undertook a strategic learning and reflection visit to Kiri Dam in Adamawa State, bringing together coalition members to deepen our understanding of how critical natural resource infrastructure can support durable solutions for communities.
Beyond the spirit of fellowship and celebration during this season of Sallah and Easter, the visit served a broader purpose: to examine practical pathways through which water resources can strengthen local economies, climate resilience, and community stability.
Kiri Dam stands as a powerful example of how strategic investments in water infrastructure can drive irrigation-based agriculture, food security, fisheries development, and rural livelihoods. For communities across the region, such systems offer opportunities for year-round farming, improved value chains, and economic empowerment, especially in the face of climate variability.
For NLCA, the visit aligns with our commitment to locally driven solutions and sustainable development pathways. By observing how irrigation systems and water management structures operate around the dam, coalition members reflected on how similar models can support durable solutions for displaced and vulnerable populations, strengthen local enterprises, and unlock new opportunities for community-led economic transformation.
This learning engagement also contributes to NLCA’s broader strategy of connecting climate resilience, local economic development, and coalition partnerships. It reminds us that solutions to complex development challenges often lie in harnessing existing local assets and strengthening the systems that sustain them.
As NLCA continues to grow into a locally anchored coalition platform, we remain committed to translating insights from such engagements into practical programs, partnerships, and innovations that benefit communities across Nigeria.
