🚨 Meningitis Risk Advisory

Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) is a serious infection affecting the brain and spinal cord, commonly caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. It spreads through respiratory droplets, especially in crowded or poorly ventilated places.

The disease can progress rapidly and may become life-threatening within hours if untreated. However, early diagnosis and prompt antibiotic treatment greatly improve survival and reduce complications.

🔴 High Risk States:
Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno.
🟠 Moderate Vigilance:
Residents in the central states are advised to remain alert and report suspected symptoms early.
🟢 Low Vigilance:
Plateau, Oyo, Cross River, Edo, Ekiti, and Enugu States.

👥 Who Is Most at Risk?
• Children and young adults
• People living in overcrowded settings
• Individuals exposed to dry, dusty environments
• Persons with weakened immune systems

⚠️ Symptoms to Watch For
• Sudden high fever
• Severe headache
• Neck stiffness
• Nausea or vomiting
• Sensitivity to light

How to Reduce the Risk:
💉 Get Vaccinated – Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent meningitis.
🧼 Practice Good Hygiene – Wash hands regularly and avoid sharing personal items like cups or utensils.
🏠 Avoid Overcrowding – Ensure good ventilation in homes, schools, and public spaces.
🏥 Seek Early Medical Care – Watch out for symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, vomiting, and sensitivity to light.

📢 Stay Informed – Follow public health
guidance and participate in community awareness campaigns.

Protect yourself and your community. Early awareness, vaccination, and prompt treatment save lives.

As part of its ongoing commitment to preventing GBV and promoting human rights within schools and communities, Clarion for Hope Initiative continues its GBV Club activities at Jambutu Junior and Senior Secondary School, Jimeta, Yola North.

This session focuses on addressing harmful gender norms and empowering students to understand how rigid gender roles and expectations can contribute to and exacerbate gender-based violence. The discussion encourages critical thinking, respect, and shared responsibility in building safer school environments.

We conducted a menstrual hygiene awareness session with parents of our beneficiaries in Jambutu community, Jimeta, Yola North LGA, Adamawa State. It was an honest and necessary conversation about what menstruation truly means for our girls and women.

During the session, we created awareness on how menstrual hygiene directly affects health, school attendance, confidence, and protection. Many girls miss school simply because they do not have access to sanitary materials or supportive environments. Some become vulnerable to exploitation when their basic needs are not met. These are realities we cannot ignore.

We also linked menstrual hygiene to education, GBV prevention, and human rights. Parents were made to understand that when the menstrual needs of girls and women are neglected, it goes beyond discomfort; it can amount to a violation of their rights to health, safety, dignity, and education.

The discussion created space for questions, reflection, and commitment. Parents acknowledged their role in breaking stigma and supporting their daughters to manage menstruation safely and confidently.

Happy New Month!
As we step into a new month, we are reminded that every new beginning brings fresh opportunities to stand up for the vulnerable, defend rights, and amplify voices that are often unheard.

May this month bring renewed strength, compassion, and hope as we continue our mission of justice, dignity, and inclusion for all.

Courtesy Visit | Building Safe & Inclusive School Communities

The Clarion for Hope Initiative paid a courtesy visit to the Principals of Government Day Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, Jambutu, as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response within school communities.

This visit marks an important step toward the establishment of a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Club in the schools—a safe space aimed at educating students on the different forms of GBV, promoting healthy and respectful relationships, and empowering young people to speak up against abuse and discrimination.

We remain committed to working closely with school authorities, students, and relevant stakeholders to foster a culture of dignity, equality, and zero tolerance for violence.

Together, we are shaping a safer future—one school at a time.

Masquerade have religion.

The court's verdict in favor of Ekpo is a significant victory for religious freedom. The judgment serves as a reminder to state governments, particularly governors, to exercise caution when issuing directives. While maintaining law and order is crucial, it's equally important to respect citizens' fundamental rights, including freedom of worship. Governors should refrain from making proclamations that could potentially infringe on these rights, unless there's a clear threat to public order or safety.
