On the 17th of October 2025 THEOPHILUS KOGIESI OMIE FOUNDATION in collaboration with the ALPHAS (final year medical students of Niger Delta University ) Held “Pad a Girl” Drive to Mark the International Day of the Girl Child
In celebration of this year International Day of the Girl Child, the Theophilus Kogiesi Omie (TKO) Foundation organized a “Pad a Girl” outreach drive on Thursday, October 17, 2025, aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene, dignity, sexual and reproductive health and rights and empowerment among young girls.
The event, held as part of the foundation’s continuous effort to support education and healthy living, brought together university schoolgirls for an interactive and impactful session on menstrual health awareness and the importance of the girl child to the society. The foundation’s volunteers sensitized participants on the importance of proper menstrual hygiene, debunked myths surrounding menstruation, and encouraged open conversations about menstrual health as a natural and essential aspect of womanhood.
Over 246 girls benefited from the outreach, each receiving free sanitary pads. The initiative sought not only to address the issue of period poverty, which often affects girls’ attendance and confidence in school, but also to reaffirm the foundation’s commitment to uplifting and supporting the girl child in every possible way.
Speaking during the event, the representative of the foundation emphasized that empowering girls begins with providing them the tools and knowledge to take care of their health, noting that TKO Foundation remains steadfast in its vision to promote excellence, aid education, and ensure healthy living across communities.
Marking the international day of the girl child stands as another milestone in TKO Foundation’s record of impactful humanitarian actions, aligning with this year’s global theme for the International Day of the Girl Child “ The girl I am, the change I lead,” further demonstrating that every girl deserves the right to sexual and reproductive rights, health, dignity, education and opportunity..
