EPIE KINGDOM DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION (EKDO)
CONGRESS MEETING REPORT
4th April, 2026

The meeting commenced with an opening prayer.

Opening Remarks

The President delivered his opening address by warmly welcoming and appreciating all members for their attendance. He presented a brief report on recent engagements and activities of the organisation, which included visits to key individuals, distribution of appeal letters and invitation cards, as well as other events that took place during the five-month period in which Congress did not convene.

During his remarks, he informed Congress that the selection of Opolo-Epie as the host for this year’s festival was decided at the Council of Chiefs meeting held in February. He noted that it was expedient to formally communicate this decision to the general Congress.

The programme of activities and the almanac for the forthcoming Obunem Epie Festival were presented for observation and corrections. Congress, in session, applauded the Executive for this year’s innovation.

Epie House Project

The President briefed Congress on the need to secure a well-defined parcel of land for the construction of a central edifice to be known as the “Epie House.” This initiative was well received and commended by members, who expressed optimism about seeing the vision come to fruition.

Political Alignment

Congress deliberated on issues relating to political alignment. The Odapiris and the Council of Chiefs advised that all sons and daughters of Epie should participate in politics with unity, love, and without bias.
Members were encouraged to engage across different political parties to promote inclusiveness and avoid sentiments. Emphasis was also placed on maintaining peaceful relationships regardless of political affiliations.

Discontinuation of Joint Associations

The President informed Congress of the move to discontinue joint associations between Epie and Atissa, such as the National Union of Epie-Atissa Students (NUEAS), Epie-Atissa CDC Forum, and the Youth Presidents Forum of Epie-Atissa, among others.

He explained that some leaders from both kingdoms have met with the two Kings and other stakeholders, and discussions are ongoing.
The advocacy is based on the understanding that such joint arrangements have become more harmful than beneficial, both politically and economically.
However, he emphasized that the brotherly relationship between the two kingdoms remains sacrosanct and should be preserved.

Closing Remarks

In his closing remarks, the President reiterated the key points discussed during the meeting. He expressed deep appreciation to the Odapiris, the Council of Chiefs, women leaders, and all other stakeholders for honoring the invitation.

He further urged all Ambassadors to actively disseminate information to their respective communities to ensure inclusiveness and proper awareness.

Shalom 🙏

We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of His Excellency Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. Our hearts are heavy with grief as we mourn the loss of a distinguished leader, a dedicated public servant, and a beloved son of Bayelsa.
