Religion often involves believing and following the teachings, dogma, and experiences of others concerning God, such as prophets, gurus, or spiritual leaders. It provides a sense of community, tradition, and shared values for many who are cut up in it.
Spirituality, on the other hand, is a more personal and individual experience. It involves exploring and understanding one's own connection to God the universe, the divine, and the higher power. Spirituality can be seen as a journey of self-discovery, where individuals seek to understand their own values, beliefs, and purpose.
Having your own experience, as I put it, allows for a more direct and intimate connection with the mysteries of life, unmediated by doctrine or dogma. It's a path that encourages personal growth, introspection, and self-awareness.
Of course, it's worth noting that these two concepts are not mutually exclusive, and many people find value in both religious and spiritual practices. But my distinction highlights the unique benefits of seeking one's own spiritual path.
