PRESS STATEMENT

STYCOP Commend General Danjuma for Withdrawal of Lawsuit Against Pastor Paul Rika

January 13, 2026

The Southern Taraba Youths Coalition for Peace (STYCOP) wishes to publicly commend and appreciate General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (retd.) for his decision to withdraw the defamation suit instituted against Pastor Paul Rika and Holiness Revival Movement Worldwide, a step we consider timely, wise, and in the overriding interest of peace and unity in Southern Taraba.

STYCOP notes that both General Danjuma and Pastor Paul Rika are respected sons of Southern Taraba, whose contributions—though in different spheres—have shaped lives locally, nationally, and internationally. As such, it is neither healthy nor beneficial for the image of Southern Taraba to witness prolonged public confrontation between two of its prominent citizens, especially in a court outside the state over matters rooted in religious prophecy and spiritual expression.

We recognize that disagreements may arise in a plural society; however, wisdom lies in de-escalation, dialogue, and restraint. The withdrawal of the suit has helped to douse rising tensions, calm emotions, and prevent the matter from degenerating into avoidable divisions among communities, faith groups, and youths in Southern Taraba.

STYCOP believes that General Danjuma’s decision demonstrates statesmanship, maturity, and concern for communal harmony, and we urge all parties and supporters on all sides to see this moment as an opportunity for reconciliation rather than triumphalism.

We further call on religious leaders, elders, youths, and opinion shapers across Southern Taraba to prioritize peace over provocation, unity over rivalry, and understanding over escalation. Our land has witnessed enough challenges; it does not need internal conflicts among its own sons.

Southern Taraba must remain a region known for coexistence, respect for faith differences, and collective progress. Let this development serve as a reminder that no personal disagreement should outweigh the peace and stability of our people.

STYCOP remains committed to peace advocacy, conflict prevention, and youth engagement across Southern Taraba and will continue to work with all stakeholders to promote harmony and responsible leadership.

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

**Date:** 20th April, 2025

**Subject:** STYCOP Rejects the Renaming of Taraba State Government Houses After T.Y. Danjuma

The Southern Taraba Youth Coalition for Peace (STYCOP) wishes to express our deep concerns regarding the recent decision by His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, to rename the Taraba State Government House in Jalingo and the Governor's Lodges in Abuja and Wukari to T.Y. Danjuma House.

While we acknowledge General T.Y. Danjuma’s contributions to Nigeria's political landscape, we must emphasize that honoring an active political figure with such a significant renaming is not only inappropriate but may also exacerbate the existing ethnic and religious divisions within our state. The perception of General Danjuma as an agent of division raises serious questions about the implications of this decision for all citizens of Taraba.

A Matter of Unity

Naming government institutions should reflect our collective values and aspirations as a diverse community. Other states in Nigeria have refrained from naming their government houses after individuals, regardless of their historical significance. For instance, Katsina State has not honored Muhammadu Buhari, and Niger State has not named its Government House after General Ibrahim Babangida. These examples illustrate a commitment to unity over personal accolades.

In a state where various government panels have reported on ethnic and religious conflicts, associating our Government House with a controversial figure like Danjuma could further inflame tensions rather than foster the unity we strive for. His involvement in local chieftaincy disputes and political maneuverings has already raised concerns among the populace.

A Call for Inclusivity

As representatives of the youth in Southern Taraba, we urge Governor Kefas to prioritize inclusivity in all government actions. Institutions like the Government House should symbolize unity among all citizens—Christians, Muslims, pagans, and individuals from various ethnic backgrounds.

We reject the notion that the Government House should bear the name of someone whose actions have been linked to division and conflict. Instead, we call for a naming process that reflects the diverse history and values of all Tarabans, promoting peace and cooperation.

Conclusion

The Southern Taraba Youth Coalition for Peace stands united in our call for the Governor to reconsider this decision. We believe it is imperative to honor figures who have contributed positively to the unity and progress of Taraba State, fostering an environment where all citizens feel represented and valued.

"He who does not forgive breaks the bridge over which he himself must cross".

Forgiveness will not change the past, yet doing so allows for expanding our growth, our freedom and our ability to love both ourselves and others beyond the imagination. Forgiving also provides space for blessings, laughter and gratitude. However, perhaps the greatest gift is that of healing. What kind of healing takes place when you forgive? Healing of sadness, hurt, anger and revenge. Such feelings can eventually erupt into physical diseases and chronic ailments that limit and defeat the entire person.

Today, Choose to live in the freedom of forgiveness rather than in the prison of pain. Get over it, move on!

A Downfall is Not the End

Life is full of ups and downs. One moment you can be on top of the world, and the next you can feel like everything is falling apart. In these moments of despair, it's easy to feel like nothing will ever be the same again and that your life is over. However, a downfall is not the end. It's merely a detour in your journey towards success.

It's essential to remember that we all face setbacks in life. Whether it be a job loss, a failed relationship, or a personal health issue, no one is immune to difficult times. What sets us apart is how we respond to these challenges. Instead of dwelling on our failures, we must focus on bouncing back and growing from them.

One of the first steps in overcoming adversity is taking responsibility for our actions. It's crucial to recognize any mistakes we made that may have led to our downfall and learn from them. Learning from our mistakes can help us make better choices in the future and avoid repeating the same patterns that led to our setbacks.

It's also important to reach out for support during challenging times. Whether it be friends, family, or a therapist, having a support system can make all the difference in the road to recovery. Talking through our struggles with others and receiving feedback can provide a new perspective that we may not have considered before.

Most importantly, we must remember that our setbacks do not define us. A downfall may feel like the end of the world, but it's not. We all have the strength and resilience to overcome challenging times and achieve our goals. It's up to us to pick ourselves back up, dust ourselves off, and continue on our journey towards success.

In conclusion, a downfall is not the end of your life. It's simply an obstacle that you can overcome with resilience, determination, and support. Remember that setbacks are a natural part of life, and by embracing these challenges, we can grow and achieve greatness. Enjoy your weekend!!
