NYCN BAYELSA STATE CHAPTER CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State — 18 August 2026

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Bayelsa State Chapter, has joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Youth Day 2026, with a vibrant and impactful celebration held on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, at the Ayalla Hotel Limited Hall, Bayelsa State.

The celebration was held under the theme, “Different Contexts: Common Aspirations,” with key sub-themes focusing on skill acquisition, youth empowerment, leadership development, and anti-drug campaigns.

The event was led by the Chairman of the NYCN Bayelsa State Chapter, Comrade Kokoriko Raphael Ebikebuna, and brought together youth leaders, stakeholders, government representatives, community leaders, and youth-focused organizations committed to advancing the interests and aspirations of young people.

The Grace Youth Corps of Nigeria (GYCN), Bayelsa State Command, actively participated in the celebration by sending a delegation led by the State Administrative Secretary, Corps Lt. Col. O. Innocent.

The participation of GYCN underscored the organization's commitment to youth development, responsible leadership, community service, discipline, skills development, and the promotion of a drug-free society.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

The celebration featured a range of activities designed to inspire, educate, recognize, and connect young people, including:

- High-level policy dialogues addressing issues affecting young people and opportunities for youth participation in development.
- Youth leadership awards recognizing outstanding contributions and achievements in youth development.
- Cultural performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage and creativity of young Nigerians.
- Networking sessions providing opportunities for youth leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to establish meaningful partnerships.
- Discussions and advocacy around skill acquisition and youth empowerment.
- Anti-drug campaigns aimed at sensitizing young people on the dangers of substance abuse and encouraging healthy, productive lifestyles.

The event served as a platform for young people to share ideas, build networks, promote leadership, and reaffirm their commitment to contributing positively to the development of Bayelsa State and Nigeria at large.

The celebration concluded with a renewed call for young people across different backgrounds and contexts to unite around their common aspirations and take active roles in shaping a better society.

Highlights from the 2026 world Drugs Day campaign against drugs abuse

The Grace Youth Corps proudly joined fellow National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) affiliate voluntary youth organizations in participating in the 2026 World Drug Day Campaign, organized by the Delta State Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
The advocacy programme, themed "Beyond Drugs Advocacy Campaign: From Awareness to Action — Mobilizing Students for a Drug-Free Delta State," was held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the James Onanefe Ibori Auditorium, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara.
The event brought together youth leaders, students, government representatives, stakeholders, and civil society organizations to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse while promoting collective action toward building a healthier and drug-free society.

Speaking on the significance of the campaign, representatives emphasized that the fight against drug abuse requires sustained collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, youth organizations, parents, and community leaders. They noted that awareness must be translated into practical action through continuous advocacy, mentorship, and youth empowerment programmes.

The Grace Youth Corps commends the Delta State Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria for successfully organizing this impactful event.
