Memorial Tribute to Ken Saro-Wiwa — 30 Years After**
Today, November 10th, marks 30 years since the Nigerian state executed Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others for daring to speak truth to power. Yet, decades later, Ken Saro-Wiwa lives on—in our voices, in our struggle, and in every community that refuses to bow to oppression.
As an organisation committed to justice and sustainable development, Jama Community Empowerment Foundation stands proudly as one of the disciples carrying forward Ken Saro-Wiwa’s legacy. We stand in the gap where he once stood, defending the rights of communities whose lands and livelihoods continue to be exploited.
Ken Saro-Wiwa rejected the peanuts offered by settlers.
He rejected the destruction of his people’s environment.
He rejected silence—even when betrayal came from within.
He fought for dignity, sustainable development, and environmental justice—principles we uphold today.
To the youths of the Niger Delta:
If the gold, coltan, and mineral wealth in Zamfara can enrich private miners and powerful actors without accountability, why must the oil and gas of the Niger Delta be treated as worthless? Why must our communities suffer pollution, marginalisation, and environmental destruction?
Justice for Edem Idim.
Justice for every neglected Niger Delta community.
We call on all communities to rise, organise, and pursue incorporation—because incorporation brings visibility, accountability, and the foundation for sustainable development.
Today, we honour Ken Saro-Wiwa not with silence, but with action.
Not with mourning, but with a renewed commitment to the struggle.
Ken Saro-Wiwa lives.
And we, Jama Community Empowerment Foundation, continue his fight.
