Many young people face academic stress and personal pressures silently, often believing that asking for help is a sign of weakness.

During a recent counseling session, one learner shared feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to cope. With consistent guidance and emotional support, they learned strategies to manage stress, build confidence, and improve their overall well-being.

This shows that mental health support in schools is just as important as academic guidance. Educators, parents, and NGOs can create safe spaces where young people feel comfortable seeking help, fostering resilience, confidence, and long-term growth.

Encouraging open conversations about mental health at school and at home benefits youth well beyond a single semester.

Learners should know that saying “no” doesn’t make them weak; it makes them self-aware. Teaching young people to set boundaries helps safeguard their goals, safety, and future.

Open conversations at home, in school, and within communities build confidence to make responsible decisions without fear or pressure.

At the beginning of a new term, students don’t just need books and timetables. They need reassurance, clear routines, and adults who make learning feel safe.

When students feel supported, they participate more, ask questions freely, and develop healthy confidence. Schools and families that prioritize emotional safety alongside academics set students up for long-term success.

Reflect on one way you can support a student emotionally this week.
