Good morning, dear friends. What a joy to come into this new day and week that God has made.
As we prepare for and continually engage in Pastoral Ministry, it is crucial we focus on three critical departments in our lives.
1. The spiritual life.
It is from here that we get the power to minister effectively. We have the responsibility of getting to know God better than our closest relations in this world. God intends for us to be all he wants us to be, and then he intends for us to do the things he has called us to do. We must continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. If we have weak spiritual lives, no amount of talent, training, or education will help us.
2. Strong Biblical and intellectual life.
Some people are very knowledgeable of the Word and have never been to Bible College. Preparation is important. It has been said that learning gained from life’s experiences are only good for dealing with things that are now in the past. The future will be different. We must be people of the Book. The time we spend in preparing for ministry is time in which our character is transformed and God puts his imprint in our very minds. This is a life long process. We must never get to the point that we stop learning and growing.
3. Our humanity.
Ministry does not change who we are, or what our physical, mental and emotional needs are. We still need food, clothing, and all of the requirements of existence. We must take the time and effort to balance ministry with the other needs we have such as rest, exercise, family life, etc. The balanced life is much like a balanced tire. The better the balance, the faster (and farther) you can go. There are four aspects of life that we need to balance: mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. These aspects combine to make us who we are.
Have you signed up for the Pastoral Ministry masterclass yet? I look forward to seeing you in class.
Shalom!
