THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN PEACE MAKING

Women in most of our traditional communities have shown height of resilience, courage and fearlessness in an attempt to bring peace to warring communities.

In flashpoints where fighting, looting and destruction of lives and property persist unabated,

Women in their desperate move to stop further aggression form human chain

a ring that passes on a message of restraint to both or either party in the conflict

perhaps intra tribal or inter tribal conflicts.

These women will refuse to move or back down no matter the danger until calmness and order are restored.

Most times leaders of this movements subsequently seek peace through dialogue and a round table discussion between the warring parties.

Soliciting for each party to settle their differences peacefully.

THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN PEACE MAKING

The recent celebration of International women's Day across the world has once again reminded us of the role of women in peace making and peace building.

Women are unique creatures from God that beautify this world, they made the earth more colourful, comfortable and even more peaceful.

When mankind came out of the state of nature which Thomas Hobbes describe life as being brutish, nasty and short ,

then the advent of social contract now known as government which is to absorb individual rights of citizens and guarantee protection of lives and property.

Governments at different levels have tried to do her best to maintain peace and order in the society

However there is a limit to what government can do in this regard,

this informed the need for other players and partners to come in and contribute their quota.

Chief among them are women and women groups which constitute a formidable force to building peace
and resolving conflict in our society.

In the traditional African societies for instance women implant peace right from family level into their children by teaching them morals.

Women transmit positive values unto the next generation which inturn enhance peaceful coexistence in our communities today.

These women in traditional African societies have achieved this noble feat through different ways including:

*Story telling

*Songs

*Proverbs

*Folklores

etc.

We see children during moonlight in communities sit around an adult and listening to stories that prohibit violence, conflict and war.

And other stories that promote peace and peaceful coexistence.

Look out for the next episode which focuses on formal approaches and other ways our women contribute to peace making globally but beginning from Africa.

God bless our women!
HAPPY INT'L WOMEN'S DAY
