Today, October 11, we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, a powerful reminder of the incredible potential and unique challenges faced by girls worldwide.

At the Centre for Inclusive Development (CID), our celebration comes with a profound commitment: ensuring every single girl, especially those with disabilities and from vulnerable groups, has her voice heard, her rights respected, and her dreams supported.

Girls with disabilities often navigate a world rife with inaccessible spaces, attitudinal barriers, and systemic discrimination. Yet, their resilience, creativity, and leadership are boundless. They are not just recipients of aid; they are agents of change, innovators, and future leaders!

This , let's actively challenge the barriers that exclude them. Let's invest in inclusive education, accessible healthcare, and opportunities that truly empower them to thrive.

CID is proud to stand with these girls, advocating for a world where their abilities are recognized, and their inclusion is non-negotiable.

Today, as Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, we at CID celebrate not only our nation’s strength but also the resilience of persons with disabilities who continue to shape our story.

Together, we envision a Nigeria where inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity are not ideals but everyday realities.

Here's what happens when you believe in people's potential πŸ’ͺ

Last month, the Centre for Inclusive Development (CID) partnered with JONAPWD to do something incredible. We trained 37 women with disabilities from across the 36 states and the FCT to become researchers.

Most had never conducted formal interviews or used digital survey tools before.

Three intensive training days later? These women became the backbone of our study on the prevalence of gender-based violence (GBV) among women with disabilities in Nigeria.

By the end of July, they had successfully collected data from over 2,000 women across five disability types including visual, hearing, physical, albinism, and intellectual/psychosocial disabilities. Every single state and the FCT was covered.

Think about that journey. From learning to use Kobo Collect apps to navigating complex ethical protocols in the field. From first-time researchers to leading one of the most important disability studies in the country.

This Ford Foundation-supported project gave us something impactful, not just a comprehensive research data, but a network of skilled women researchers ready to drive change beyond the research duration.

The evidence collected will shape policies and programs. But honestly? Watching these women discover their own capabilities might be one of the most important outcome of all.

To every woman who stepped into this challenge, every respondent who shared their story, and our partners JONAPWD and others, thank you for proving that inclusion is the smartest thing to do.

Earlier this year, CID hosted the Inception Workshop for our research on the prevalence of GBV among women with disabilities in Abuja.

GBV experts from six geopolitical zones of Nigeria and partners, including NAPTIP, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the National Bureau of Statistics, JONAPWD, and the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, came together to refine the research methodology, validate tools, and strengthen ownership of this important research.

Collaboration like this is how CID ensures inclusive data that drives inclusive solutions.

πŸ“’ Big News! CID has launched a nationwide research to understand the prevalence of Gender-Based Violence among women with disabilities in Nigeria.

Why does this matter? Because without evidence, their experiences remain invisible in policy and programmes.

This project which started earlier this year, will bridge that gap and make sure all voices count. πŸ’œ
