Empowering Persons with Visual Impairments: A Sustainable Solution to Begging
Begging among person's with visual impairments is a common sight in public spaces. While it is natural to feel compassion and sympathy towards these individuals, it is important to recognize that by perpetuating a culture of begging, we are not empowering them to live independent and dignified lives.
Instead of giving handouts to persons with visual impairments, we should focus on providing them with the necessary tools and resources to establish themselves and earn a living. We honestly appreciate every communities, groups, and individuals who has identified themselves with persons with visual impairments and have been of great generosity.
we have observed that some of our members now take the habit of begging as a profession and a means of Lifely hood which is derogatory and disgraceful and also an abuse of Grace and opportunity.
Let me take you through some of the activities these people do which denies those who truly need the help from you. Some of these people will forge a particular institution admission letter and claim to be in school, lie with other health conditions etc.
We are not against helping persons with visual impairment and every other related persons with disabilities, but what we believe is that; ideas on what they can do to be productive should be what should be inquired from them and make help in such ideology.
By offering them access to capital, job training programs, and business opportunities, we can help them become self-sufficient and break the cycle of poverty and dependency.
Empowering persons with visual impairments through entrepreneurship and vocational training not only enhances their self-esteem and confidence but also contributes to the economic growth and development of the society. By supporting their initiatives and promoting their products and services, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Let us work together to empower persons with visual impairments in Nigeria to become self-reliant and productive members of society. By investing in their potential and fostering their entrepreneurial spirit, we can pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for all. Say no to begging, and yes to empowerment!
