Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day

On 21 September 2026, the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Oyo State Branch, in collaboration with the Conflict Awareness Prevention Initiative (CAPI), commemorated the 2026 International Day of Peace at Olabamiji Hall, Department of Peace, Security and Humanitarian Studies, University of Ibadan.

The programme brought together distinguished peace scholars and practitioners, academics, security professionals, government representatives, civil society organisations and other stakeholders for meaningful reflections on peacebuilding, conflict prevention and human security. Among those in attendance were Dr O.O. Isola, fspsp, Director, IPSS; CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, represented by ACP Bunmi Apapa; Dr Roselyn Subair, mspsp, Convener, CAPI; Jamaldeen Akanbi, mspsp, Chairman, SPSP Oyo State Branch; Chief Dr Moses Adeyemo Alake, fspsp, former Deputy Governor of Oyo State; Hon. Olalekan Alli, former Secretary to the Oyo State Government; Prof. Benjamin Adeniran Aluko, fspsp, President, SPSP; Prof. N.D. Danjibo, fspsp, former President, SPSP; Dr Lanre Yusuf, fspsp, former Secretary-General, SPSP; Dr Bolanle Omidiji, fspsp, WANEP Representative; Dr Adeniji Michael, Convener, Ibadan Development Hub; Dr A.V. Adebayo; Prof. Adams Onuka, fspsp, representing ECOMAWDI; and Prof. John Ayotunde Bewaji, FNAL, Director, International Centre of Excellence in Environmental Humanities, Federal University Lokoja, alongside other notable personalities.

The programme was moderated by T**i Kushimo and featured goodwill and institutional messages from ECOMAWDI, WANEP, IPSS and CAPI.

The Oyo State Branch of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) recorded an impactful presence at the 19th SPSP International Conference and General Assembly, held from 24th to 28th November 2025. The landmark conference, themed “Economic Challenges and the Task of Building Sustainable Peace in a Globalised World,” brought together a distinguished community of peace scholars, policymakers, security experts, and practitioners to examine the intricate linkages between global economic realities and sustainable peace.

The conference featured notable keynote presentations from Dr. Ozonnia Ojielo, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Rwanda, who emphasized the critical role of international cooperation in advancing peace and development; and Gen. C.G. Musa (rtd), former Chief of Defence Staff, who offered strategic insights into national security and stability amid economic constraints.

In addition, the event drew valuable perspectives from leading national figures, including Chief Bisi Akande, Father of the Day, who spoke on governance and socio-economic progress; Prof. I.O. Albert, FSPSP, Conference Host and Hall of Famer, who reflected on the advancement of peace education; Prof. Sulaiman Elias Bogoro, FSPSP, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and Mr. Nathaniel M. Awuapila, FSPSP, President of SPSP, who reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to deepening peacebuilding initiatives across Nigeria and beyond.

As a branch, we actively participated in plenary sessions, panel discussions, and technical workshops, contributing to thought-provoking conversations on economic instability, rising youth vulnerabilities, conflict prevention, and community resilience. Members of our delegation also engaged meaningfully in strategic networking sessions, exploring opportunities for collaborative research, policy engagement, and community-focused peace interventions.

Overall, our participation strengthened the branch’s visibility within the national body, enriched our understanding of the complex interplay between economic dynamics and sustainable peace, and reinforced our commitment to driving impactful peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and socio-economic development efforts across Oyo State.
