Happy Posthumous Birthday to a Pace-setter and a Great legend of Umueri Okebo, Chief Hon. Fidelis Nzegwu Okoye!

Chief F.N. Okoye, as he was popularly called was a proud son of the late King Okoye Odili—the first warrant chief of Umueri Town, from Irueke-Adegbe Vilage. He was a distinguished Nigerian politician and renown chartered accountant.

He was born on July 17, 1926, to HRH Okoye Odili of Irueke Adegbe Umueri and the late Iyom Igwevi Okoye (née Ekweonu) of Umunagu Adegbe Umueri, he left an indelible mark on our history.

As an elder statesman and a prominent member of the Old Anambra State House of Assembly from 1979 to 1983, Chief Okoye served as the Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Budget Implementation. His contributions to our political landscape are immeasurable.

A true nationalist, he is credited with coining the name "Anambra" in the political lexicon of Nigeria during the 1950s when a county council was established from the old Onitsha Province of the Eastern Region for the people of Omambala. In the Second Republic, he co-sponsored a motion for the creation of a New Anambra State , just before the military takeover in 1983. The rest, as they saying goes is history.

As we honor the birthday of this remarkable legend today, we, the people of UmuEri- the cradle of Igbo Race call upon the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to recognize and celebrate this great patriot, who is truly the founder of our beloved state.

While we celebrate his legacy, we also pray that the soul of Pa F.N. Okoye rests peacefully in the bosom of the Lord. Amen!

PRESS RELEASE: UMUERI PROGRESSIVE FORUM (UPF) MOURNS THE TRAGIC LOSS OF MR. ONYEAKA NNALUO (KAKA)

The Umueri Progressive Forum (UPF) expresses profound sorrow at the untimely death of Mr. Onyeaka Nnaluo, popularly known as KAKA, who was tragically murdered by unidentified assailants in Eziagulu Village, Aguleri.

Prior to this devastating incident, KAKA served as the Chairman of the Ogonogo Adegbe Youth Association and held the position of Chairman of the Task Force Committee of the Umueri National Youth Forum (UNYF). He was also an active member of Udogachi Anambra East, a group dedicated to eradicating criminal activities and vices within the local government.

The UPF is heartbroken by the loss of such a promising young leader, whose commitment to community development was unwavering. In light of this tragedy, the UPF General Assembly calls upon the leadership of the Umueri Community—His Royal Highness Igwe Ben Emeka (Igwe Oke Eboh II of Umueri), the Igwe in Council, the Umueri General Assembly (UGA), and other influential members of the community—to utilize the legal framework to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.

We also appeal to the people of Umueri, particularly the youth, to remain calm as our leaders work diligently to facilitate the investigation aimed at apprehending the perpetrators. On no condition shall anyone take the law into their own hands; the legal system is in place to address such matters. Any information that could assist in the investigation should be directed to the appropriate authorities.

On behalf of the Executives and members of the Umueri Progressive Forum (UPF), we extend our deepest condolences to the immediate family of the late Onyeaka Nnaluo, as well as to the entire Nnaluo Uyesi family of Irueke Adegbe Village of Ikenga Umueri.

May his noble and gentle soul find eternal peace in the Lord.

Sincerely,
Ikemba Buchi Diboh
President UPF

Diaspora Group Sends SOS to Gov Soludo

The professionals from Umueri town in Anambra East, Anambra state, who reside abroad, have urgently called upon the Governor of Anambra state to intervene and put an end to the long-standing crisis between their town and their immediate neighbors, Aguleri, over Aguakor land dispute.

This plea was conveyed in a Save our Soul (SOS) letter sent by the group through an open letter to the Governor. It was signed by Mazi Emma Ekwegbeli Ikeli and Ikemba Buchi Diboh as Chairman and Secretary respectively. The group expressed their dismay at the lackadaisical attitude of governments at all levels - Federal, State, and Local - towards the ongoing hostilities between the two sister communities.

The Umueri in Diaspora (UID) group has brought attention to the alarming neglect of the ongoing crisis by the local government, headed by Chief Ifeanyi Chinweze, a native of the area. The crisis, according to the group has claimed more casualties since 1933 than any other communal conflict in the state and even in the entire Igboland, and therefore deserved immediate and decisive action.

"It is more worrisome that the LG Chairman, our brother and son, Chief Ifeanyi Chinweze, has not taken any action in this matter. He seems to prioritize resolving other disputes while neglecting a dispute that claimed more human and material resources than any other in the state and the entire Igboland."

The Group acknowledged that the Local Government Chairman has effectively resolved numerous land disputes, such as those involving Igboezunu Aguleri and Umudiana Umueri; Umuoji Umuoba Anam and Egbeagu Eziagulu Aguleri; and Ikem Nando and Umuekete Aguleri, among others. He questioned the reason behind the intentional neglect of the Aguakor land dispute involving Ikenga Umueri and Isiokwe Aguleri."

The Group demanded that the government take proactive measures to address this long-standing issue and prevent further loss of life.

The Secretary of the Group, Ikemba Buchi Diboh, in a telephone interview, questioned why the governments at different levels only seem to pay attention to the pleas of peace-loving members of both communities only during times of open crisis. "Since 2021, there has been an ongoing cold war between the two communities, and Umueri has been losing souls to this ugly situation. We are tired of this situation. The governments must not ignore the calls to end this crisis".

The Group urged the Governor to make history by resolving the Aguakor land conflict using the panel report initiated by his predecessor, Chief Maduaburochukwu Obiano. Despite previous attempts by the communities to establish boundaries in the area, the troublemakers benefiting from the dispute have consistently disrupted the process, says the letter.

In conclusion, the Group implored the Governor to swiftly implement the 2021 Panel report to prevent future crises. They emphasize the importance of implementing the white paper report from the panel initiated by Governor Obiano in 2021 as a proactive measure to avoid further escalation of the conflict. "A stitch in time saves nine." It concludes
