The cattle stockyard enclosure was completed by the men and women of Nabouono village further supporting the ongoing activity of cattle management.
A cattle stockyard is an enclosure that works as a temporary housing for handling as well as controlling the movement of cattle. The infrastructure was discussed during an awareness visit by the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) at Nabouono village earlier this year, with MoA staff assisting in the preliminary set up of the stockyard. The community with support from WWF Fiji completed the cattle stockyard that will assist in the recommended management of cattle within the community. π π
The community initiative on the conservation of sea turtles through provision of an alternative source of protein, is funded by the UNDP Small Grants UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme Fiji(2024). The VWC also acknowledges the great support provided by the WWF Fiji office throughout the project implementation period π.
The community efforts not only impact the survival of a species significant to traditional fijian customs and culture, the conservation effort would also influence the good health of Fiji's largest barrier reef, that is the Great Sea Reef or Cakaulevu. Cakaulevu is acknowledged to be the worldβs third longest barrier reef system, stretching over 450 kilometers. πͺΈ πͺΈ
