Strengthening Governance Through Partnership: USGEAAN Sokoto paid advocacy visit to Sokoto House Assembly

The U.S. Government Exchange Alumni Association Nigeria (USGEAAN), Sokoto Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation. The engagement focused on ways to strengthen the budget process in the state by promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in public finance.

The visit was led by the State Secretary Kabiru Mahe (IVLP) who was joined by Joined by fellow alumni members and newly inaugurated Social Accountability Ambassadors.

The Committee welcomed the initiative and assured its commitment to work closely with alumni and civil society partners in building a more open, participatory, and accountable governance framework for Sokoto State.

The visit is part of a Good Governance and Accountability Project sponsored by U.S. Mission Nigeria

Day 3 | Closing Day Highlights for the 3-day Capacity Building Workshop for 50 selected Youths on Good Governance and Accountability, proudly sponsored by U.S. Mission Nigeria. The activity was implementated in partnership with Iconic University and USGEAA-Nigeria



What a powerful finale! Today, our 3 clusters stepped forward with brilliant presentations on tackling accountability, transparency, and service delivery in Sokoto State.

🔹 Cluster 1: Proposed a Consumer Parliament model for real-time citizen feedback.
🔹 Cluster 2: Outlined strategies for using the FOI Act to make government data more accessible.
🔹 Cluster 3: Mapped out ways to mobilize community action for holding public officials accountable.

The most exciting part?
Each cluster's proposal is now shaping into a real project for community implementation — powered by our newly inaugurated Social Accountability Ambassadors

From learning to leading — we’re turning knowledge into action.

Day 2 Recap

The 2nd day of our Good Governance & Accountability Workshop brought the energy! From eye-opening sessions on citizen rights and **public accountability to rich dialogue on community action — today moved us one step closer to a more transparent Sokoto.

One major highlight?
We officially formed 3 thematic clusters of our Social Accountability Ambassadors!

- Cluster 1: Developing a Consumer Parliament for better service delivery
- Cluster 2: Using the FOI Act to promote transparency
- Cluster 3: Driving grassroots action to hold public officials accountable

Each cluster is now equipped and energized to lead advocacy and sensitization efforts in their communities.

👏 Big thanks to our facilitators and participants who made today impactful and purpose-driven.
