NUSS NHQ CONDUCTS PHYSICAL SCREENING FOR MAKS POLYTECHNICS CHAPTER, RECORDS HISTORICAL SUCCESS.
Earlier last week, on Friday, 16th January 2026, the National Headquarters (NHQ) of the National Union of SAKI Students (NUSS) successfully conducted a physical screening exercise for the MAKS Polytechnic Chapter, marking a historic climacteric in the revival and repositioning of the Union within the institution.
Notably, for over one year, Union activities at the MAKS Polytechnic Chapter had remained broadly inactive. However, recognizing the chapter as one of the largest, most vibrant, and most widespread chapters in SAKI, the National body considered it imperative to intervene and restore efficacious unionism. This proactive step further addresses the long-standing challenge that institutions within SAKI lack structured and functional student unionism.
Through the collaborative efforts of staff advisers, student leaders, and key stakeholders within SAKI, a strategic meeting was convened prior to the screening exercise. This meeting culminated in a unanimous resolution that the NHQ would formally conduct a physical screening for the MAKS Polytechnic Chapter on the aforementioned date.
The screening exercise was conducted successfully, transparently, and peacefully by the NUSS NHQ, with the support of stakeholders in SAKI, past executives of the MAKS Polytechnic Chapter, and independent observers, while security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force were present to ensure law, order, and credibility throughout the process.
Following the conclusion of the screening, the Oath of Office was duly administered by the Senate President of the National Headquarters, immediately after the emergence of the newly elected executives. The process led to the emergence of:
Comr. Wahab Sulaiman (Kuranga) as President, and
Comr. Jamiu Ismail (Noble) as Senate President.
All stakeholders and observers expressed utmost satisfaction with the transparency, fairness, and credibility of the entire exercise.
In their collective remarks, stakeholders admonished the newly inaugurated executives to uphold the integrity and image of the Union, desist from all acts capable of impairing its reputation, and work together in the spirit of love, unity, and harmonious coexistence. They further accentuated the Unionβs guiding principle:
βSAKI before politics and political crises on campus.β
The screening exercise was witnessed by the following prominent observers:
1. Comr. Ikuogbogun Abassβ One-time President, MAKS TOPS Chapter
2. Comr. Alimi Muhammedβ One-time Vice President, MAKS Polytechnic Chapter
