In what many described as a celebration of growth, unity, discipline, and cooperative progress, Owowawawa Makun Sagamu Cooperative Muiltipurpose Union Limited held its 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, March 26, 2026 at Ewu Oliwo, Oja Otitokoro, Ado Omitutu, Sagamu, Ogun State, with a strong message of hope and institutional advancement.
The event, which brought together cooperative leaders, executives, stakeholders, delegates, and distinguished guests from within and outside Ogun State’s cooperative movement, served as a platform to review the union’s performance for the 2025 financial year and chart a progressive course for the future.
At the centre of the occasion was the President of the Union, Mr. Oluyiga Gbodi, who delivered a detailed and inspiring management report, highlighting the union’s major achievements, financial progress, membership expansion, and strategic direction.
One of the biggest highlights of the AGM was the announcement of the union’s impressive financial growth.
According to the President, Owowawawa Makun Sagamu Remo CMU Ltd recorded a net surplus of ₦2.8 million for the year ended 2025, representing a significant rise from the ₦357,000 surplus recorded in the previous year.
This remarkable leap, according to stakeholders at the event, reflects the union’s increasing financial stability, improved internal coordination, and the commitment of its member societies to the cooperative ideal.
Mr. Gbodi described the result as a product of hard work, prudent management, and the collective support of affiliates and stakeholders.
Even more encouraging was the broader performance of the union’s affiliated societies. The President disclosed that the combined net surplus of all affiliate societies rose from ₦91 million to ₦135 million within the year under review a development he described as a sign that the cooperative family within the Owo group is steadily moving forward.
Beyond surplus growth, the union also recorded encouraging participation in shares and savings contributions.
Mr. Gbodi announced that member societies contributed over ₦10 million in shares and savings during the period under review, a milestone he said demonstrates increasing confidence in the union’s structure and a shared commitment to financial growth.
He urged member societies to sustain the tempo, noting that consistent contributions remain one of the strongest pillars of cooperative sustainability.
For many at the AGM, the figures were not just numbers they were evidence of a union that is gradually consolidating its place as a relevant and reliable platform for collective economic advancement.
Another notable feature of the AGM was the reaffirmation of the union’s growing structure and reach.
Owowawawa Makun Sagamu CMU Ltd currently comprises 22 Primary Cooperative Societies, making it a significant grassroots cooperative body within the Sagamu axis and the broader Ogun State cooperative movement.
This development underscores the union’s expanding influence and its strategic role in promoting unity, mutual support, and sustainable growth among member societies.
In cooperative administration, consistency and internal engagement remain critical to success.
The President revealed that the union held twelve (12) board and general meetings during the year under review. He commended members of the board and delegates for their punctuality, participation, and constructive contributions during deliberations.
According to him, the strength of the union lies not only in its financial figures, but also in its ability to maintain regular engagement, dialogue, and collective decision-making.
Mr. Gbodi explained that the union made deliberate efforts during the year to ensure that member societies received their loan requests promptly, especially at periods when demand from members was high.
He expressed satisfaction with the repayment culture of affiliate societies, emphasizing that cooperative loans should not become burdens but rather serve as strategic support tools to help societies meet urgent member needs while maintaining their own profitability.
A major moment of celebration at the AGM was the announcement that the union welcomed two new societies into its fold during the year under review.
The newly admitted societies are:
Moriregba Makun Sagamu CMS Ltd and Ayodele Ajaka Sagamu CMS Ltd
The President described their emergence as a sign of growth and confidence in the union’s vision.
He also used the opportunity to appreciate the leadership of the “mother societies” that gave birth to the new cooperative bodies.
Special recognition was given to Mrs. Akintunji, President of Ajaka Sagamu CMS Ltd, for her role in the emergence of Moriregba Makun Sagamu CMS Ltd, as well as Mrs. Modupe Aina-Ayodele, President of Oluwadarasimi Ajaka CMS Ltd, for facilitating the birth of Ayodele Ajaka CMS Ltd.
