RIVERS FIRST MOVEMENT (RFM) CONDEMNS THE DASTARDLY ATTACK ON HIS EXCELLENCY, CHIBUIKE ROTIMI AMAECHI AND HIS ENTOURAGE

The Rivers First Movement (RFM) condemns in its entirety the dastardly attack against His Excellency, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and his entourage today in Ubima, Ikwerre LGA. This attack, which also included the burning of the Ubima ward ADC Secretariat, serves as a warning and a motivation to Rivers people; it has become even more clear that the “cartelization” of Rivers State and the thugification of a few amenable youths as a means by the failed political leadership of the state to intimidate and subjugate Rivers people in its unholy quest for total political control, must be addressed with the requisite unity and revolutionary fervour never seen before in the history of Rivers State.

It is our belief that this attack comes from a place of fear; fear that Rivers people have seen through the charade and are gradually refusing to exist in subjugation in the hands of a select self-centered few. Consequently, we encourage Rivers people to stand up and join the movement for the emancipation of Rivers State from political vultures posing as leaders. We call on all true lovers of Rivers State to join the Rivers First Movement as we move towards sociopolitical and economic emancipation of our dear State.

We also use this medium to call on the security agencies to ensure that those responsible for this attack are quickly apprehended and brought to book to deter any such actions in the future. We will not also forget to add that, if the security agencies fail to bring those responsible for these attacks to book, they will have unwittingly encouraged an environment of thuggrey, political assassinations, and intimidation of Rivers people by hired political thugs, especially as Rivers people across the 23 LGAs galvanise themselves towards asserting their democratic rights in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

In this light, and considering that Rivers people are not cowards, Rivers people will consequently be forced to take matters into their hands. The RFM as a revolutionary sociopolitical movement makes it clear that we will support and encourage Rivers people to take whatever precautionary measures that is necessary to withstand and confront every violent political action in Rivers State as a means of self defence. Rivers State belongs to Rivers people, and Rivers people refuse to be bullied by vultures looking for where to feast.

Signed
Nubari Saatah,
Spokesperson, Rivers First Movement (RFM)

RIVERS STATE: RICH IN RESOURCES. POOR IN OUTCOMES?

Let’s be real, the stats don’t lie.

POVERTY: Hidden in Plain Sight

Over 62% of Rivers residents live in multidimensional poverty (National Multidimensional Poverty Index (NMPI) 2022, which is compiled using information from the National Bureau of Statistics), meaning huge portions of the population lack access to basic services like quality education, healthcare, clean water and jobs.
For a state rich in oil, that’s a damning statistic.

It is time to decide if we must move forward as a state or continue to stagnate.

Join like-minded Rivers people committed to the task of making positive sociopolitical and economic change a reality in Rivers State. Join the Rivers First Movement today.

RIVERS STATE: RICH IN RESOURCES. POOR IN OUTCOMES?

Let’s be real, the stats don’t lie.

ECONOMY: Oil Doesn’t Equal Prosperity

Rivers State recorded an unemployment rate of 13.4% in 2023 which is the third highest in Nigeria despite massive oil revenue flowing through the economy.
That means hundreds of thousands of people can’t find work even though the state contributes billions to the national economy. Around 2.24 million people in Rivers depend on informal jobs a sign of weak formal employment growth (According to the 2023 Nigeria Labour Force Survey by the National Bureau of Statistics). This isn’t just unemployment, it’s under-growth and a failure of leadership in providing the conducive environment that encourages production.

It is time to decide if we must move forward as a state, or continue to stagnate.

Join like-minded Rivers people committed to the task of making positive sociopolitical and economic change a reality in Rivers State. Join the Rivers First Movement today.
