Essence and Existence
In Christianity,
essence refers to God’s nature
His eternal being (Exodus 3:14).
Existence is the act of being,
shown in creation and life (Genesis 1:1).
Humans share existence but not God’s essence.
Through Christ (John 1:1–4), believers partake in divine life (2 Peter 1:4), not essence, but fellowship. Thus, essence is who God is; existence is that we are, sustained by Him.
