JOINS RIWAMA’S CLEAN RIVERS INITIATIVE, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO A CLEANER RIVERS STATE
As Rivers State marked World Environment Day 2026, Ogwus Youth Empowerment and Community Development Organisation (OYECDO) proudly joined stakeholders at the flag-off of RIWAMA’s Clean Rivers Initiative- 10 Million Water Sachets Challenge held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the RIWAMA Complex, Port Harcourt.
The initiative, themed “Inspired by Nature for Climate, for Our Future,” aims to mobilise schools, markets, communities, institutions, households, recyclers and producers across Rivers State to recover and recycle used water sachets, preventing plastic waste from polluting waterways and blocking drainage systems.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Port Harcourt generates an estimated 400,000 used sachets daily and over 144 million annually. Poor disposal contributes to flooding, environmental pollution, microplastic contamination and public health risks.
