Oil Resumption: Tinubu Is Changing the Ogoni Narrative — Ribadu

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, says President Bola Tinubu’s actions are changing the narrative in Ogoniland after more than 30 years of environmental and developmental challenges.

Ribadu spoke during a visit to Ogoniland with top federal officials to assess confidence-building measures ahead of dialogue on oil resumption. He said the President’s community-driven approach is already yielding positive results and urged the Ogoni people to cooperate with the Federal Government for the success of the process.

He expressed regret over the recent oil spill in Kpean community, Khana LGA, describing it as sabotage linked to long-abandoned facilities. Ribadu said President Tinubu has ordered a full investigation and directed relevant agencies to ensure remediation and prevent a recurrence.

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, and NNPCL GCEO, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, confirmed that assessment and investigation of the spill are ongoing, with steps being taken to secure oil facilities.

The visit ended with the Kpean Traditional Rulers Council conferring a chieftaincy title, Mene Sulenunua One, on Ribadu in recognition of his efforts.

As we wrap up our engagements, the Ogoni Dialogue Committee is thrilled to share the tremendous support we've received from Ogoni youth groups!

During a recent meeting, we were honored to engage with passionate young leaders from across Ogoniland, and we are grateful for their confidence in our mission. Led by our Co-Chairman, Archbishop Ignatius C.O Kattey (Rtd), the discussions fostered an atmosphere of peace and collaboration, highlighting the importance of youth contributions to the resumption of oil exploration.

Archbishop Kattey assured the youth that their voices matter, stating, "This initiative is for you, not for us. You are the future leaders." Together, we aim to create a sustainable path forward that respects both the community and the environment. 🌿🙌

Comrade Ana-Ana Oswell Nadum, President-General of the Community-Based Youth Presidents of Ogoni, expressed confidence in our approach, emphasizing that for the first time, community-based youths are being empowered to shape the development of Ogoniland. 🗣️👏

As we embark on this journey, we are committed to keeping the lines of communication open and reaching out to every corner of Ogoniland. Meetings will be held across villages to ensure every voice is heard and every concern is addressed.

Thank you to all the youth leaders for your participation and ideas! Together, we're making strides towards a brighter future for Ogoniland.

We're excited to share that, although we've wrapped up our community engagement across the four local government areas of Ogoniland, the Ogoni Dialogue Committee is still actively meeting with various stakeholders and groups in the region.

Our ongoing meetings aim to ensure that every voice in our community is heard and represented. 🙌

At a recent gathering in Bori on March 20, 2025, our Alternate Chairman, Archbishop Ignatius Kattey (Rtd), expressed his satisfaction with the robust participation as numerous groups presented their memoranda. He reassured everyone that we are moving towards the final collation and presentation of the Ogoni position.

"We want to engage with the grassroots to ensure that all interest groups in Ogoni are represented. Almost all groups expected to present memoranda have done so, and we encourage everyone to contribute! The consultation process will wrap up by March 30," he stated.

Dr. Patience Osarojiji from the Coalition of Ogoni Women for Environment shared her hope that the voices of our communities will not be overlooked. She highlighted the committee's dedication to inclusivity, especially in involving women in decision-making. "We’ve longed for the development of Ogoniland, and it's encouraging to see such commitment to our women's participation," she said.

Her Royal Majesty, Queen Georgiania Tenalo, also emphasized the need for immediate concerns to be prioritized, asserting that the pains of the Ogoni people must be acknowledged before discussing oil resumption. "Our expectation is that the committee will carry our requests and concerns to the Federal level," she asserted.

Numerous Ogoni stakeholders and interest groups, including religious leaders, activists, and women's organizations, have come together to ensure our collective voices are heard.

Thank you for your continued support as we work towards a better future for Ogoniland! 💪🏽
