21st November 2025, Hope in the Jungle Initiatives (HITJI) joined Fisheries Experts, Practitioners and Stakeholders to celebrate World Fisheries Day. The Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) Rivers state chapter and Catfish and Allied Fish Farmers Association (CAFFAN), with other fisheries stakeholders used Rivers state Aquaculture workshop 2025 to create a platform for driving sustainable fisheries and aquaculture development in Rivers State.
With the theme, fish for future: bridging farmers’ experience and academic innovation for sustainable aquaculture growth; fish farmers, researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders gathered to exchange experiences, discuss innovations, and strengthen collaborations. The gathering had over 194 registered online participants from different countries; 190 onsite participants and secondary school students. Having two secondary school children proves that it is not too early to steer the youths in Niger Delta to embrace fisheries and aquaculture to tap into the abundant water resources and enhance food security.

Women farmers were trained on improved planting methods and supported with cassava stems to boost their livelihoods. Together, we’re planting seeds of knowledge, growth, and hope. 🌱🌾💚
