On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, hundreds of women environmental defenders, community organisations, and their allies mobilised across the continent and beyond to mark the inaugural African Women’s Climate Justice Day.

This landmark Day of Action emerges at a critical moment. As the world faces escalating catastrophes, wars and resource-driven conflicts, deepening inequality, and widespread ecological destruction, African women who are among the most impacted and are also leading some of the most radical solutions. Their voices, leadership, and resistance are more vital than ever in the global fight for climate justice and reparations.

From the mangroves to our communities, we commit to healing the damage done and building a future rooted in sustainability, justice, and resilience.
Gas flaring, pollution, and environmental degradation must end.
Together, we take action to clean up our lands, restore our ecosystems, and protect the livelihoods of present and future generations.

Women Rights Organizations Heads in Rivers State gathered for Breakfast Retreat Invitation by Collective Pathway for Development Initiative led by Rita Kigbara with theme "Women Elevate". The objectives of this retreat were to provide a structured space for women to reflect on their leadership journeys within the non-profit sector, identify both systemic barriers and personal strengths; to energize women leaders by addressing the physical, mental and emotional demands of leading their organizations and motivate women leaders to translate their personal growth into further action and systemic change.

This event was on of a kind in Rivers State and Port Harcourt where it took place on 2nd April 2026. It was well attended and indepth issues of women leadership came up strongly on all sectors but dwelling more on the non-profit.

We look further to more engagements and build on the outcomes.
