Today, GWIHR joins the world in commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day, promoting dignity, health, and equal opportunities for every girl and woman. Together, let’s break the stigma and ensure safe menstrual hygiene for all.

Today, as the world commemorates World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we are reminded that menstruation is a natural and healthy part of life, not a source of shame, discrimination, or silence. This day serves as a global call to action to promote menstrual health, dignity, and hygiene for women and girls everywhere.

Millions of girls and women across Nigeria and the world still face barriers to proper menstrual hygiene management due to poverty, stigma, lack of education, inadequate sanitary products, and poor access to water and sanitation facilities. These challenges affect their health, confidence, education, and overall well-being.

Menstrual health is not only a health issue; it is also a matter of human rights, gender equality, and social justice. No girl should miss school because of her period. No woman should feel ashamed of a natural biological process. We must continue to advocate for policies and programs that ensure access to affordable menstrual products, accurate information, and safe, supportive environments.

This year’s commemoration calls on governments, communities, schools, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to break the silence around menstruation and create a society where every girl and woman can manage her menstruation safely, confidently, and with dignity.

As we mark this important day, let us all commit to:

Ending period stigma and discrimination.

Promoting menstrual health education.

Supporting access to affordable sanitary products.

Creating safe and inclusive spaces for women and girls.

Together, we can build a period free world where menstruation is recognized as normal, healthy, and nothing to be ashamed of.

Happy World Menstrual Hygiene Day to all Adolescent girl and young women(AGYW).
