Hon. Justice Joseph Otabor Olubor (retired) is a prominent Nigerian jurist and the pioneer President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Edo State. Born to parents with roots in the Igbanke community of Orhionmwon Local Government Area in Edo State, Justice Olubor has dedicated his career to advancing the Nigerian judiciary.The history of his legal, judicial, and public service can be detailed as follows:Education and Early CareerEducation: Justice Olubor attended St. Paul's Primary School and Edokpolor Secondary Modern School before obtaining GCE levels at the Institute of Continuing Education, Benin City. He earned an LLB from the University of Lagos (1978) and was called to the Bar in 1979.Legal Roles: He served as a State Counsel, a legal officer at the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority, and a President of Area Customary Courts.Judicial LeadershipCustomary Court of Appeal: Following service as Deputy Chief Registrar, he was appointed a Judge of the Customary Court of Appeal in 1991.President: He served as the pioneer President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Edo State from 1998 until his retirement.Public Service and Community ImpactPost-retirement, Justice Olubor continued his service through public inquiries, including leading a 2018 Edo State administrative panel investigation. He is also noted for advocating for infrastructure development, including road projects, in his home community of Igbanke.
