OBOLO SON, ISIJAAN NKANTA, EMERGES CSN NATIONAL PUBLICITY SECRETARY
— The Obolo people have recorded another significant achievement in the professional space with the election of Chemist Isijaan A. Nkanta, FCSN, as the National Publicity Secretary of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN).
Nkanta emerged victorious at the 49th Annual International Conference and General Meeting of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, held at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, on Tuesday, 15th September 2026.
In the keenly contested election, Chem. Amb. Isijaan A. Nkanta of NESREA polled 175 votes, defeating his contender, Prof. J. Gongden of the University of Jos, who secured 170 votes.
With his election, Nkanta is expected to succeed Prof. Joseph Akan of the University of Maiduguri as National Publicity Secretary of the prestigious professional body.
The development is particularly significant to the Obolo people, as another son of the Ijaw ethnic nationality, Dr. Ebitimi Berezi of Bayelsa State, was also elected as the 17th President of the Chemical Society of Nigeria.
Nkanta, a Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, currently serves as the Director of Administration, Utono Obolo Worldwide, where he has contributed to the advancement and coordination of the organisation's activities.
The leadership and members of Utono Obolo Worldwide have described his emergence as a moment of pride for the Obolo people, noting that the achievement further demonstrates the capacity of Obolo sons and daughters to excel and attain leadership positions in professional and national institutions.
The organisation congratulates Chemist Isijaan A. Nkanta, FCSN, on his well-deserved election and wishes him a successful and impactful tenure as National Publicity Secretary of the Chemical Society of Nigeria.
This is a victory for the Obolo people and another testament to the rising profile of Obolo professionals on the national stage.
