EID EL KABIR: MULTIPLY GOOD DEEDS BRING HAPPINESS, PLEASURE TO THE HEARTS OF FELLOW BEINGS, ALAAFIN URGES NIGERIANS.

The Alaafin of Oyo , Oba Engineer Akeem Abimbola Owoade 1, has called for rededication to the cause of mankind, appreciation to the gift of life and to imbibe the virtues of tolerance, understanding and good neighbourliness..
This is contained in a release signed by the. Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo, Bode Durojaiye

According to the Royal Father, what particularly makes the festival of Eid al-Adha significant is because it is rooted in the scriptural accounts of both Islam and Christianity about how Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), in obedience to God was to sacrifice his son before divine intervention.

"" Thus, the true meaning and essence of this occasion is submission, obedience and love, virtues that are in short supply in our country today. Eid-el-Kabir is therefore a season that calls for rededication to the cause of mankind, to appreciate the gift of life and to imbibe the virtues of tolerance, understanding and good neighbourliness.

"" In spite of challenges in the process of nation-building, what confronts us is not particularly peculiar. Therefore, as we celebrate this special festival, we must reflect on and imbibe the essence of sacrifice and humility for the promotion of harmonious relationship in our country. We also need to take this opportunity to reach out to everyone in promoting love, peace and unity."".

Alaafin noted that while we expect friends and families to join together in merriment, it is important not to lose sight of the true meaning of this special occasion and the spirit of sacrifice it represents.

"" The day, is meant “to multiply good deeds by bringing happiness and pleasure to the hearts of other Muslims, by helping and supporting the poor and needy, and by getting involved in pastimes that emphasize the strong and serious Islamic character.

"" What that suggests is that situations in the country make it compelling for adherents of Islam and indeed all Nigerians to look beyond themselves and their immediate environment.

"" Paying attention to the plight of the poor, we invariably place the welfare of our neighbours as important as ours; by allowing others to partake of our wealth or material possessions, we honour the ones who made the provision in the first place. This happens to be at the heart of all religions, but a virtue that is particularly at the heart of this festival"".

Oba Owoade therefore pointer out that the occasion should therefore go beyond the slaughtering of rams to sharing love and material possessions not only with relatives or acquaintances, but also with the displaced, the elderly, the orphans and other people at the margin of the society, including those with special needs.

Said he, "" It is also important that Nigerians begin to embrace and support charitable causes and there is no better occasion than today to make such resolve.

"" Let your life preach louder than your words "", Alaafin tells graduands of Baptist College of Theology
Paramount Ruler bags royal father award

By Bode Durojaiye ,the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin of Oyo.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade 1, has urged graduands of the Bàptist Ciolege of Theology, Oyo to carry the values of theological excellence, doctrinal and ministerial faithfulness wherever they go , and to let their lives be salt and light, so that Oyo and Nigeria as a whole can be proud of the fruits borne from the sacred institution.

Oba Owoade gave the admonition today at the 47th graduation ceremony of the Bàptist College of Theology , Oyo.

He stated that at a time when the world is searching for moral clarity , spiritual integrity , and compassionate leadership, the significance of the institution cannot be overstated.

"" Baptist College of Theology is not only equipping men and women spiritually and academically, it is also raising torchbearers for the nation and the global church .

""Dear graduates, you are leaving this place not just with knowledge , but with a mandate to serve, lead and shine. Whether you stand behind a pilot, sit in a counseling room , let your life preach louder than your words"".

The Alaafin who appreciated the Baptist Convention President and other Baptist leaders in Oyo Baptist Conference who took out time to visit him during seclusion , also reiterated the impact of the Baptist work in Nigeria .

Said he, "I have been a beneficiary of the Baptist work through formal education at the Baptist High School, Saki. Providentially, my coronation took place at the Olivet Baptist High School , Oyo. Moving around Oyo town , you will see the Baptist Churches littered all over the place , bringing spiritual and socio economic growth to the town.

Oba Owoade went further , "" that is why the Alaafin as an institution and a person will continue to accord respect and honour to the Baptist work and institution in Nigeria , Oyo State and Oyo town in particular "".

Highlight of the historic event was the conferment of a royal father award on the Alaafin for his contributions to the College from cradle and to life.

Today, I speak not just as a custodian of culture and tradition, but as a voice for my people, who are deeply honored by the audience you have granted us here in the heart of national leadership—Abuja. Your Excellency, your gracious reception of this visit is more than protocol; it is a mark of your character, your statesmanship, and your enduring regard for the place of traditional institutions in national development.

Your Excellency, the people of Oyo remember your journey. You are a man who rose through the crucible of political struggle with unmatched courage and clarity. You have worn many hats: activist, strategist, bridge-builder, and now, the nation’s foremost leader. Nigeria looks to you not only for leadership but for restoration—for a new vision rooted in justice, equity, and inclusive progress.

It is in that spirit that I come today—not only to pay homage but to seek collaboration. Oyo is ready. Yoruba nation is ready and all Nigerians are ready. Our people are resourceful, our youth are eager, our land is rich in culture and potential. We have seen the hand of the Federal Government in unlocking development across key sectors:
* ECONOMIC REFORM
* INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT
* SOCIAL WELFARE
* HUGE INVESTMENTS IN AGRICULTURE
* YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
* SECURITY
* EDUCATION and
* CULTURAL PRESERVATION.

We understand that national transformation is not built by government alone, nor by tradition in isolation. It is built when ancient wisdom meets modern governance—when institutions, old and new, work hand in hand with one vision: the progress of our people.

Your Excellency, the Alaafin’s Palace, the Oyo Mesi, our chiefs, Yoruba nation and indeed, the good people of Oyo stand firmly behind you. We offer not just our support, but our partnership. Let us make the Oyo Empire, a model of regional development—one that echoes the greatness of our past and aligns with your vision for a prosperous Nigeria.

May the Almighty continue to strengthen your hands, guide your heart, and grant your administration the wisdom to unify and uplift this beloved nation.

Thank you for receiving us.
Thank you for honoring Oyo and the entire Yoruba nation.

HIGHER SOUTHERN AND NORTHERN PROVINCES.

From a letter to General Oladapo Diya, The Presidency, Abuja, dated 17th January 1977.

With the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Provinces by Lord Lugard in 1914, the Nigerian nation came into being. Various Native Ordinances were promulgated.

In Lord Lugard's Political Memoranda, under Memo Number IX- NATIVE ADMINISTRATION DATED AGUST 1917, page 307, paragraph 26, the seniority/hierarchical order of Traditional Rulers in thr Northern and Southern Provinces respectively were clearly stated, viz:

(1) NORTHERN PROVINCES:

"The higher rank is accorded to the Sultan of Sokoto, the Sheu of Bornu, the Emirs of Kano, Gando, Bauch, Zaira, Katsuna, Yola, Bida, Ilorin, Kontagora and Argungu in the Northern Provinces".

(2) SOUTHERN PROVINCES:

"And to the Alaafin of Oyo, the Oba of Benin, the Alaka of Egbaland, the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode, and the Ooni of Ife in the Southern PROVINCES ".
