PRESS STATEMENT: CONCERN OVER ARREST OF PWDs IN LAGOS STATE
10th October 2026.

The Kenneth Ulo Foundation is deeply concerned about the ongoing reports regarding the arrest of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos State.
Persons with disabilities deserve dignity, respect, and equal treatment under the law. They should never be treated as criminals simply because they are beggars. Begging is a symptom of systemic failure and exclusion, not a crime.
As a community, we are watching closely to see what action the Nigerian government,leaders and stakeholders in the disability community will take in response to this situation. The community deserves leadership that speaks up, stands firm, and protects the rights and welfare of its members.
This is a moment that calls for accountability, unity, and responsible leadership. We call on government and leaders to address this matter promptly and ensure that the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities are respected and protected in Lagos and across Nigeria.

The dignity and freedom of the PWD members must never be taken for granted.
Enough is enough! Their voices matter, and their rights must be protected.

DISCOVERY AWARDS AFRICA 1.0 SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED!

On the 4th of September, we joined the world for the official launch of Discovery Awards Africa 1.0 by Enabling India an Indian NGO committed to the welfare of persons with disabilities.

It was a powerful virtual gathering that brought together individuals and organizations from across the globe.
Countries represented included Nigeria, Uganda, Gambia, Zimbabwe, India, Romania and many more.

We are proud to share that Kenneth Ulo Foundation played a key role in ensuring the success of the ceremony.

This is just the beginning. Through Discovery Awards Africa, we are committed to identifying, celebrating, and amplifying_ innovative solutions by persons with disabilities, their families, and communities across Africa.

Together, we are building a more inclusive continent where no one is left behind.

HISTORIC MILESTONE FOR INCLUSION!

The Kenneth Ulo Foundation welcomes the adoption of the First-ever United Nations General Assembly resolution on access to Assistive Technology. This is a groundbreaking political milestone and we join other well meaning organizations in thanking Pakistan* for its leadership in facilitating this initiative.
Why this matters:
Access to appropriate, affordable, and quality Assistive Technology is essential for the autonomy, equality, and participation of persons with disabilities and others who use it. Technology alone is not enough. As society must also remove the barriers that deny people their rights.

At Kenneth Ulo Foundation, we remain committed to this vision. We will continue to work to ensure that Assistive Technology policies are shaped by persons with disabilities and connected to the transformation of laws, systems, services, and communities in line with the . We also applaud the work of ATscale, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO) in driving global action.
This UNGA resolution brings us one step closer to a world where no one is left behind.

Are you a person with a disability in Nigeria who has made an innovative discovery to assist yourself or others? Kenneth Ulo Foundation , Nigeria's coordinating organization for Discovery Awards International, an Enable India project, invites you to share your story!

What We're Looking For:

- A 3-minute video showcasing your unique discovery, which can be simple or complex, such as:
- Assistive Technology: adaptive tools or devices
- Accessibility Solutions: new ways to navigate everyday challenges
- Innovative Strategies: creative approaches to problem-solving
- Your discovery should be something that can benefit others with disabilities globally

How to Participate:

1. Record a 3-minute video in landscape mode (not portrait mode) showcasing your discovery.

Strengthening Families of Persons with Disabilities 💙

Every family is a gift from God. And every member has unique value.

Disability does not reduce a person’s worth, intelligence, or ability to contribute. It is an opportunity for families to show love, resilience, patience, and unity.

The greatest gift we can give a child or adult with a disability is not pity.
It is love, acceptance, encouragement, and opportunity.
