Meet Hassan Dan’azumi, a graduate of the Department of Microbiology, Bauchi State University, Gadau, who earned a Second Class Upper Division (2:1).

He chose education over begging on the roadside—proof that dignity, hard work, and perseverance still pay.

Congratulations to him 👏🎓

Often the UN postulation that women with disabilities are the poorest of the poor do not actually describe the realities of condition of women with disabilities who live in very romote communities. These women are the poorest of the poorest of the poor. Life deals so harsh on women and girls with disabilities we met in this very remote area. So sad.

Women and girls with disabilities are the most disadvantaged group in communities. They are relegated, denied education opportunities and most times locked in the houses for fear of stigma. The much value attached to males and preference to boy-child have unprecedented negative effects on the girls and women with disabilities.

Denial of rights and opportunities strongly contribute to neglect, poverty and low self-esteem. Where a girl-child with disability is less likely to receive basic education and economic support from the immediate family and from the society, her life is likely built on a foundation that exposes her to live below the poverty line all through her life.

On 3rd Dec the World Disability Day, we urged everyone in the society to not just look at our physical appearance but to see beyond the visible, beyond the limitations and discover the abilities, talents and strengths of persons with disabilities.

Physical bodies should not just define persons with disabilities but the hearts, minds and spirits. Persons with disabilities are more than the disabilities.

We ask everyone to join us in creating a world that's inclusive, accessible and equitable for all.
