The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission partners with Bread of Life Development Foundation on the "Wolewoles in Action Against Cholera" project.

This latest development came up after a recent meeting held on January 13, 2025, at the Alausa Secretariat, where representatives from both organizations were present.

The commission's Executive Secretary, Mrs Adepoju, also a WASH expert, expressed her enthusiasm for the project's progress and emphasized the importance of water and sanitation in preventing cholera outbreaks. She highlighted the commission's interest in collaborating with Bread Of Life and providing necessary support to ensure the project's success.

One notable aspect of this partnership is Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu's commitment to public health, demonstrated by his approval of three mobile labs in Lagos State for water quality testing.

This initiative will undoubtedly enhance the state's ability to monitor and improve water quality, reducing the risk of water-borne diseases like cholera.

Highlights From The Recently Concluded 3-day Training Workshop For The “WoleWoles In Action Against Cholera Project”

In response to the recent cholera outbreak in Agege, Lagos State, Bread of Life Development Foundation conducted a 3-day training workshop for Environmental Health Officers, January 7-9, 2025

The program equipped participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote hygiene practices and prevent the spread of cholera in the LGA.

The workshop, brought together about 60 Environmental Health Officers and Voluntary Hygiene Promoters , discussed effective hygiene promotion strategies to combat the cholera outbreak.

Scaling Up Cholera Prevention Efforts:

Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and Voluntary Hygiene Promoters (VHPs) converged to strategize and develop comprehensive work plans to combat cholera for the “WoleWoles In Action Against Cholera Project”.

The event is organized by Bread Of Life Development Foundation under the USAID financed Lagos Urban Water, Sanitation and Hygiene ( LUWASH) Activity.

During the brainstorming session, the EHOs and VHPs:

Outlined actionable steps for the 9-month project.

Identified effective strategies to prevent cholera outbreaks.

Defined key performance indicators to measure project success.

With their work plans in place, the EHOs and VHPs will now be equipped to implement targeted interventions, promote hygiene practices, and safeguard public health in Agege Local Government.

The designated officers (EHOs) and Volunteers (VHPs) shared their exciting experiences on the field, highlighting the enthusiasm of community members to learn about cholera preventive measures .

Agege LGA chair launches materials to combat Cholera outbreak

The Executive Chairman, Agege LGA, Hon. Johnson Babatunde has launched information, education, and communication materials for use in implementing the USAID financed "WoleWoles in Action against Cholera" project in the LGA.

The materials include posters, stickers, flyers, shirts, facecaps, and megaphobes.

Presenting the materials, Executive Director of Bread of Life, Dr Babatope Babalobi said they will be used by Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and Voluntary Hygiene Promoters (VHPs) to raise awareness about cholera prevention in the LGA

The financed project aims to educate Agege LGA residents on safe hygiene practices to combat the spread of cholera.

Health officers brainstorm on Cholera control in Lagos

Bread of Life has convened a meeting of Health Officers to fashion out strategies to combat Cholera outbreak in Agege Local Government, Lagos State

The event is organized under the USAID financed Lagos Urban Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (LUWASH) Activity

Opening the event, the Head of Environmental Health Department, Agege LGA, Mr Awonuga Taiwo, stressed the need for a collaborative approach involving stakeholders from various sectors to prevent cholera outbreaks and mitigate its impact.

'Stakeholders must work together to identify and address the root causes of cholera, which are inadequate sanitation, poor hygiene practices, and contaminated water sources'

'We need strategic planning and coordination among government agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations to create a healthier and more resilient community,' said Awonuga.
