A historic honour for the ancient kingdom of Onitsha.

United Nigeria Airlines will unveil two newly acquired Boeing 737-800NG aircraft on Thursday, June 18, 2026, and one of them bears the name of Agbogidi Nnaemeka Achebe, CFR, Obi of Onitsha.

The naming is a recognition of his distinguished leadership, statesmanship, and decades of contribution to national development, a tribute that places the Onitsha throne alongside literary icon Prof. Chinua Achebe, after whom the second aircraft is named.

The ceremony takes place at the Nigeria Airforce Apron, MMA2, Lagos, with the Executive Governor of Abia State, H.E Alex Otti, OFR, as Chief Guest of Honour, and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, as Special Guest of Honour.

For Onitsha and the entire Anambra State, this is more than an aviation milestone. It is the legacy of Agbogidi taking flight, literally, across the skies of Nigeria and beyond.
