📌WAEC Shifts Full CBT Examination to 2027 — OPF Steps Up to Prepare Omu-Aran Students.📌

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially postponed the full rollout of its Computer-Based Testing (CBT) examination system to 2027.
This announcement comes after months of public concern about the readiness of schools, teachers, and students for a nationwide transition to full CBT.

To ensure a smooth changeover, WAEC confirmed that the 2026 May/June WASSCE will run as a pilot, where candidates can choose between:

✅CBT format, or

✅Traditional paper-and-pen format

This flexible phase is intended to help schools and learners gradually adjust to the new examination structure.

📌Why WAEC Delayed Full Implementation
WAEC acknowledged several critical challenges that would have affected fairness and accessibility if full CBT had launched in 2026. These include:

👉Inadequate CBT Infrastructure
Many secondary schools across West Africa—especially in rural communities—still lack:

✅Functional computer laboratories

✅Stable and reliable electricity

✅High-speed internet connectivity

✅Adequately trained ICT personnel

Rolling out full CBT under such conditions would risk disadvantaging thousands of students.

📌How OPF is Leading the Response in Omu-Aran📌
Long before this announcement, the Omu-Aran People’s Forum (OPF) had already taken proactive steps.
Since last year, OPF’s Digital Skills Empowerment Initiative has trained hundreds of students on how to navigate computer-based examinations and essential digital technologies.

Going forward this year, the Forum is targeting at least 500 additional students, alongside teachers, to empower the entire education ecosystem in Omu-Aran.

This is not just preparation for CBT—it is an investment in:

📌Digital literacy

📌Employment readiness

,📌Entrepreneurship skills

📌Technological confidence

📌OPF’s Long-Term Commitment: Strengthening School Infrastructure📌
The OPF remains fully committed to sustaining this capacity-building movement.

The Forum’s long-term plan includes supporting secondary schools in Omu-Aran with:

📌Functional computer laboratories

📌Stable electricity supply

📌Reliable internet connectivity

📌Qualified and trained ICT personnel

These interventions aim to ensure that no student in Omu-Aran is left behind when WAEC finally transitions to full CBT in 2027.

📌A Call to Stakeholders📌
Parents, school administrators, community leaders, development partners, and philanthropists are invited to collaborate with the OPF.
Together, we can position Omu-Aran as a model community one where every child has equal access to digital tools, quality education, and future opportunities.

Over the years, OPF has consistently engaged the youth of Omu-Aran through various career development initiatives. Two years ago, we focused on enhancing students’ mathematical reasoning and critical thinking skills. Last year, we held a program centered on developing communication, expression, and problem-solving skills through English debates, while addressing pressing issues such as drug abuse, cybercrime, and examination malpractice.

This year, we embarked on a new dimension: a digital mentorship and training program aimed at equipping the youth with vital skills in programming, web development, and digital literacy. These are not just skills of today, they are the tools for building a better tomorrow. Through this initiative, OPF has trained students and youth from Omu-Aran to harness the power of technology and prepare them for future opportunities.

I am also proud to note that OPF is the first organization in Omu-Aran to introduce a scholarship program with a (CBT) system, setting a benchmark for technology-driven education in our community. After a month of rigorous digital skills training, we conducted a mock scholarship examination in various locations, followed by the physical CBT Scholarship Qualifying Examination. Today, we are excited to celebrate the winners across three categories: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary levels.

Distinguished Guests,
Your Royal Highness, The Olomu of Omu-Aran, (Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, Olomu Efon),
Honorable Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tunji Olawuyi
The Honorable Chairman, Irepodun Local Goverment, Area, Omu-Aran
The Olomu-In-Council,
Esteemed Elders and Leaders of the -Aran Development Association ,
President of the Omu-Aran People’s Forum , Mr Yinka Babalola,
The Governing Council of OPF (OPFGC), Parents, Teachers, and our bright and promising scholars,

Good afternoon, and welcome to this momentous occasion, the Grand Finale and Scholarship Award Ceremony of the “Omu-Aran Youth Innovate & Create” Program, organized by the Omu-Aran People’s Forum (OPF) Career and Scholarship Committee.

Today, we are here to celebrate excellence, dedication, and the transformative power of education and technology. This year OPF education program, which has run for the past month, represents our commitment to empowering the youth of Omu-Aran with critical digital skills, fostering creativity, and inspiring them to become innovators and leaders in a technology-driven world.

Before delving further, I wish to honor the memory of our late Chairperson, Professor Grace Iyabo Olasehinde, who selflessly piloted the affairs of this committee until her passing last year. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Her legacy remains a guiding light for all of us as we continue to build on the foundation she laid.

As we honor their achievements today, let us recognize that these scholarships represent more than financial assistance, they are a testament to our belief in the potential of every student here to inspire change and drive progress in Omu-Aran and beyond.

In addition to the scholarships, I am pleased to announce that 25 imported school bags will be awarded to the top-performing students, along with scholarship funds for nine students across the three categories. Consolidated scholarship funds will also be presented. These initiatives reflect OPF’s unwavering commitment to the development of the people in Omu-Aran.

I would like to reiterate that OPF is an integral part of ODA’s broader mission, working tirelessly to enhance the lives of our people. We humbly urge ODA leadership and community stakeholders to continue supporting OPF and its impactful programs.

To our esteemed Royal Highness, donors, dignitaries, and all members of the community, your generous contributions and presence here today underscore your commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders.

To our scholars, I encourage you to cherish this moment with pride and gratitude, but also with a deep sense of responsibility. Use the knowledge and opportunities you have gained to uplift our community and inspire others to dream big and achieve even more.

Once again, I welcome you all to this special event. May today mark the beginning of many more milestones of success for Omu-Aran and its remarkable youth.

Thank you, and may God bless you all.
