O'Brien Memorial Foundation, located in Ogobia Ugboju, is a philanthropic organization dedicated to providing support to the less previliage persons, the aged women, orphan children and vulnerable children with disabilities.

On Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, Two representatives from the Liliane Foundation Netherlands, in collaboration with TLMN, conducted an official visitation to Ogobia. The primary objectives of their visit were as follows:

1. To examine and verify the condition and functionality of our agricultural equipment, including the power tiller, rice thresher, and rice harvester.

2. To assess our processing facilities and farms, which included the rice mill, garri mill, cassava farm, and notably, our piggery unit.

3. To engage with and hold a discussion session with the Parents Support Group in order to better understand their experiences, contributions, and needs.

The visit was highly successful. Following their evaluations, our organization was ranked the best among all partners working with them, reflecting the strength of our operations, management, and community impact.

The Liliane Foundation Netherlands, in collaboration with The Leprosy Mission Nigeria (TLMN) through the Parent Support Group PSG, Ogobia, has continued its dedicated support to children living with disabilities. As part of its 2025 LF Empowerment Programme, a total of eight children were selected to benefit from an economic empowerment initiative aimed at strengthening their future well-being and improving the livelihoods of their families.

Each beneficiary was allocated an empowerment package valued at ₦300,000. Out of the eight, three children received the full cash grant of ₦300,000 to support their development and specific needs. For the other beneficiaries who preferred material support instead of cash, the foundation provided productive items such as wheelbarrows and basins equally worth ₦300,000. These items were handed over to their parents or caregivers to manage responsibly on the children’s behalf, ensuring the resources are used to generate income and enhance their long-term stability.

This initiative aligns with the broader goal of securing a better future for children and young people with disabilities by empowering their parents and caregivers with small-scale business opportunities.

Official Statement from the Fr. O’Brien Memorial Foundation, Ogobia

The Fr. O’Brien Memorial Foundation, Ogobia, wishes to officially inform the public and our esteemed partners of the number of beneficiaries currently supported under our scholarship programme.

During the 2024/2025 academic session, the Foundation awarded scholarships to ten (10) children. Out of this number, five (5) successfully graduated, while five (5) continued under the sponsorship.

In the 2025/2026 academic session, the Foundation expanded its reach by admitting an additional ten (10) new beneficiaries, bringing the total number of students currently on scholarship to fifteen (15). Among them, one (1) scholar is currently in 300 Level, studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Maiduguri.

The Foundation’s scholarship programme provides comprehensive educational support covering the following areas:

1. Provision of essential school materials;
2. Payment of examination fees (including WAEC, NECO, Junior WAEC, and mock examinations);
3. Payment of school fees.

It is worth noting that the Foundation has also ensured that the first team school and other necessary educational materials have been adequately provided for all beneficiaries.

However, as the number of scholars continues to increase, the Foundation’s financial resources are being stretched. We are therefore appealing for support from well-meaning individuals, organizations, and partners to enable us to sustain and expand this noble initiative, ensuring that more deserving children have access to quality education and a brighter future.

The Fr. O'Brien Memorial Foundation is commemorating his anniversary today, 27th May 2025. Fr. O'Brien's anniversary serves as a poignant reminder of his altruistic contributions to the community, particularly in the realms of education and child welfare. His unwavering dedication to providing opportunities for underprivileged children, promoting education, and fostering a sense of community has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals, including the aged women in the community and vulnerable children with disabilities. Additionally, it promotes an interschool debate competition between St. Mary's College Ondo and King's College Ogobia. The debate topic is "Corruption has done more harm than good to Nigeria than bad Governance". St. Mary's emerged victorious.

The Pig Farm Initiative:-
The Fr. O'Brien Memorial Foundation, Ogobia, has diversified its operations to include a pig farm, driven by a dual-purpose objective:

1. Economic Empowerment: The pig farm is designed to generate revenue through the sale of pigs, creating a sustainable source of income.
2. Social Responsibility: The profits generated from the pig farm will be utilized to support vulnerable members of the community, including:

- Children with disabilities
- Less privileged individuals
- Aged women

By integrating economic empowerment with social responsibility, the Fr. O'Brien Memorial Foundation demonstrates its commitment to creating a positive impact in the lives of marginalized community members.

Child Protection Advocates (CPA), Ogobia:-
The Fr. O'Brien Memorial Foundation, Nigeria, has established the Child Protection Advocates (CPA) in Ogobia. This community-based organization comprises members from various local communities who work together to safeguard the rights and well-being of children and youngsters with disabilities (CYWDs).

Objectives:
1. Protection from Abuse and Neglect: The CPA defends CYWDs against abandonment, marginalization, discrimination, and stigmatization by society.
2. Family Reunification: The CPA helps reunite abandoned CYWDs with their families, promoting family unity and responsibility.
3. Empowering Parents: By engaging parents and caregivers, the CPA encourages them to take a more active role in supporting their CYWDs.

Partnerships and Collaborations
The CPA has been linked with the Otukpo Local Government Social Welfare Office, ensuring a coordinated approach to child protection and welfare. Additionally, some organizations affiliated with the CPA submit their financial reports to the Foundation, while others receive funding or donations to support their activities, fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual support.

Parents' Support Group (PSG), Ogobia:-
The Parents' Support Group (PSG) in Ogobia is a collective initiative of parents who have children and youngsters with disabilities. This cohesive group has united to advocate for their children's rights, promote their well-being, and empower themselves.

Objectives:
1. Family Empowerment: The PSG aims to enhance the socio-economic status of its member families, ultimately lifting them above the poverty line.
2. Resource Mobilization: By pooling their resources, members can better support each other and their children, fostering a sense of community and cooperation.
3. Advocacy and Support: The PSG serves as a platform for parents to share experiences, challenges, and best practices, ensuring their children receive the care and support they need to thrive.

Tractor Donation and Community Support:-
The Fr. O'Brien Memorial Foundation, Nigeria, received a significant donation from MIVA, facilitated by the Liliane Foundation: a tractor. This generous gift aims to enhance the Foundation's agricultural pursuits through mechanization, boosting efficiency and productivity.

Moreover, the tractor is also made available to the local community on a hire basis, providing them with access to mechanized farming tools. This initiative not only supports the community's agricultural needs but also generates income for the Foundation.

This project exemplifies the Foundation's commitment to corporate social responsibility, demonstrating its dedication to supporting the local community and contributing to their economic development.

Establishment of Rice and Garri Mills:-
Two significant initiatives were undertaken to promote food processing and economic development in Ogobia, Nigeria:

1. Rice Mill: Founded by Fr. O'Brien, this facility enables the processing of rice, enhancing the local food supply chain.
2. Garri Mill: Established by the Fr. O'Brien Memorial Foundation, Nigeria, this mill promotes the processing of garri, a staple food in Nigeria, for both local and national consumption.

These mills not only support the local economy but also contribute to food security and self-sufficiency in the region.
