CONSENSUS BUILDING FOR FGM ABANDONMENT

On the 9th of December 2025, Community Leaders (mostly Traditional Rulers) from Olooro/Adudu, Idi Ayin, Adeosun, Idi Ori and Sadiwin Communities of Surulere LGA in Oyo State with all the Law Enforcement Agencies converged at the Town Hall, Iresaadu for efficient conversation about FGM Abandonment in their communities and beyond.

The platform was given for all stakeholders to review happenings in their communities, build synergy, coordinate effective working relationships and jointly ensure the stoppage of female mutilation and equally have deep understanding about the Violence Against Person Prohibition (VAPP) Law and it's contents indicating penalties and punishments.

The conversation was significant as participants fully made observations, contributions and requests for the smooth interface within all stakeholders, most especially, making the VAPP Law available in our local languages.

The implementing organization, Cedars for Human Welfare Initiative (CEHUWEI) with partners, Center for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health Center for Population and Reproductive Health (CCPRH) and Oyo State Government were available for the engagement.

This was made possible by UNFPA Nigeria that provided the funding.

SURVEILLANCE TEAM REVIEW MEETING II

Cedars for Human Welfare Initiative held the second Review meeting with the members of the 2024 Surveillance Team that worked within Mooro, Iresaadu, Ataapa, Atowoda and Elesinmeta Communities in Surulere LGA of Oyo State was held on the 22nd December, 2025.

The meeting reviewed the reports of the team members, current trends and challenges were equally discussed and solutions were proffered with further suggestions that will support subsequent interventions in their communities and beyond.

This conversation was in partnership with the Center for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health (CCPRH) Center for Population and Reproductive Health, Oyo State Government with funding from UNFPA Nigeria

SURVEILLANCE REVIEW MEETING I

Towards the abandonment of FGM Practices in Surulere LGA of Oyo State, Cedars for Human Welfare Initiative in partnership with Center for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health Center for Population and Reproductive Health and the Oyo State Government with support from UNFPA Nigeria held a Review Meeting with the 2024 Surveillance Team to review the current trends of thing within their local communities to ascertain recent developments if any.

The Twenty Five (25) members of the suveillance Team worked in these Five (5) Communities; Mooro, Iresaadu, Ataapa, Atowoda and Elesinmeta.

Further Commitment to work more in their various communities was the resolution as a way to stop the act of female mutilation.

In continuation of the Project in Surulere LGA, Oyo State. Cedars for Human Welfare Initiative (CEHUWEI) with Centre for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health Center for Population and Reproductive Health and Oyo State Government with support from UNFPA Nigeria engaged in Community Dialogue sessions in Idi Ayin, Olooro/Adudu, Adeosun, Idi Ori and Sadiwin communities to advocate for their support to publicly denounce Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM).

The engagement is to have extensive deliberations with community members about the workings of the Champions, more emphasis on why FGM must stop and their roles as Community members in the abandonment project. Discussions ranging from their perspective and how the menace can be jettisoned.

On the 18th - 19th November and 1st December 2025, Cedars for Human Welfare Initiative trained Twenty-Five (25) FGM Community Champions in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Five (5) persons per Community were trained as Champion within their neighborhood, the communities are Idi Ayin, Olooro/Adudu, Adeosun, Idi Ori and Sadiwin purposely to steam down the tides of FGM and the total abandonment of mutilation of female ge****ls.

This intervention was in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, Center for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health (CCPRH) Center for Population and Reproductive Health with support from UNFPA Nigeria

SOUTH WEST ZONE

In Ijapo Quarters, Akure, Ondo State is a convening of experts within the Civil Society organizations, Media and Development Consultants from all the South West States, that gathered at the instance of Kimpact Development Initiative - KDI Kimpact Global to participate in its On-site Civic-Tech and Human Rights Clinic Workshop.

The clinic is designed as a practical capacity-building session for key civic actors, including community-based organisations, youth groups, local media associations, human rights monitors, and legal aid providers. It focuses on equipping partners with the skills and tools required to effectively use, apply, and amplify the BRS platform within their programmes and networks.

As designed, participants discussed through sessions on Defending Civic Space through Technology; Introduction & Practical Hands-on BRS- (Building Resilient Spaces) Platform Training with adequate session to critic, observe and pose questions and other necessary feedback. In all, as a development consultant, there is a need for the amendment of the 1979 Public Order Act; collaborate more for the Nigeria Freedom Index to be totally FREE and assessing Democratic Information via the platform: www.naijaelections.ng
