Lagos State Cooperative Movement Celebrates 2026 International Day of Cooperatives with Awareness Walk
Lagos, Thursday 2nd July, 2026.
The Lagos State Cooperative Movement, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, through the Department of Cooperative, joined the global community to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Cooperatives with a vibrant Cooperative awareness walk across all the 24 Multipurpose Cooperative Unions in Lagos State.
The exercise brought together cooperative leaders, members, and stakeholders to create public awareness on the values, principles, and contributions of cooperatives to economic and social development, thereby fostering mutual trust and social cohesion.
Participants marched through major streets carrying banners that highlighted the importance of the cooperative movement. A central banner displayed the 2026 International Day of Cooperatives theme: "Cooperatives for a Peaceful World."
The celebration demonstrated the unity and strength of the Lagos State Cooperative Movement as members called on more residents to join cooperatives and take advantage of the opportunities they offer for economic empowerment and social progress.
The International Day of Cooperatives is observed annually to recognize the role of cooperative societies in building resilient communities, creating decent jobs, reducing poverty, and fostering peace through collective action.
