*Former Anambra Head of Service, Igwebe, Lauds 'One Girl, Two Skills' Initiative for Empowering Young Girls*
The immediate past Head of Service (HOS) of Anambra State, Chief Mrs. Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, mni, has commended the "One Girl, Two Skills: Empowering Young Minds Through Skill Acquisition" programme for training over 500 young girls in practical vocations.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the one-week Skilled Young Girls Free Training Programme organised by Honourable Mrs. Ijeoma Ike in collaboration with the Nnewi Progressive Mandate in Nnewi on Sunday, Igwebe, who was represented by the Deputy Mayor of Nnewi South Local Government Area, Honourable Mrs Nneka Ireka, praised the organisers' commitment to youth empowerment, describing the initiative as aligning with Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo's vision of public-private partnerships for self-reliant youths.
The former HOS called on stakeholders, parents, and community leaders to support and sustain such initiatives, adding that, "Collective action will build a generation of confident, skilled young women who will bring pride to Nnewi and Anambra State."
She urged the beneficiaries to embrace discipline, consistency, an entrepreneurial mindset, and financial skills like saving and investing to grow small ventures into businesses.
The week-long programme equipped participants with marketable skills, including body lotion and cream production, makeup artistry, toilet soap making, cake and pastry baking, event decoration, cookies production and packaging, assorted snacks preparation, and cosmetology.
In her vote of thanks, Honourable Mrs Ike expressed gratitude to Chief Mrs. Igwegbe and her representative for encouraging the participants.
